New York Jets – Siemian vs. Webb: Who Will Back Up Sam Darnold?

Stephen Russo on the battle at backup quarterback between Trevor Siemian and Davis Webb…

Glenn Foley. Brett Ratliff. Kellen Clemens. All names of backup quarterbacks whose potential had Jets’ fans hyped and yearning to see them thrust into the starting lineup to see what they could do. While the average NFL fan would struggle to tell you one factoid about any of these guys, they are near and dear to many Jets’ fans hearts, yet truly indicative of the miserable state of the franchise and its never-ending search for a quarterback over the last twenty five years. But not anymore! We have our guy. We have our QB1. Sam Darnold. The kid is ready to take the next step and make that Carson Wentz or Jared Goff leap into year two.

New York Jets Message to Mike Maccagnan – No Excuses

Tyson Rauch on Mike Maccagnan having no excuses on being able to build a contender by this point in his tenure

As the clock winds down to the start of NFL free agency the expectations continue to skyrocket for the fans of the New York Jets. Their beloved team is armed with over $100 million dollars in cap space, which puts the organization in a position to compete for any player that is available. Now it is up to Jets’ general manager Mike Maccagnan and his staff to put actions behind their words and significantly increase the talent level of the roster. Anything less than a well-executed free agency plan is completely inexcusable, especially after enduring the last two years of a “true rebuild” which produced a barren roster.  A legitimate “put up or shut up” period is ahead for Mikey Macc, with failure not an option if the team wants to be a playoff contender anytime soon.

Initial Reaction – New York Jets Hire Adam Gase

Joe Caporoso with initial reaction to the New York Jets hiring Adam Gase as their next Head Coach

The New York Jets have decided to hire Adam Gase as their next Head Coach. Yesterday, our man Scott Mason did an excellent overview of him with Travis Wingfield who closely followed and covered him during his time in Miami, I strongly encourage you to give it a listen.

One of the benefits of this site and how I cover the team is that I don’t have to work with Adam Gase going forward or see him all the time. I don’t know anything about him personally or professionally outside of what has been discussed around his Miami tenure and what has happened on the field in his career. This also isn’t a fan site so I am not going to shill for a decision just because the Jets made it, you are just going to get my opinion, backed up by what data I can provide.

My opinion is that I strongly dislike this hire. I would criticize the hire if any other team in the NFL made it and I will criticize the Jets for making it. Now, another good thing about this site, is what do I know? Crazier things have happened in the NFL and maybe an interim owner, a 24-40 GM and a 23-25 Head Coach can make this work. I will be rooting for it as a fan.

But, man…
