Statistics let us remove emotional stimuli and focus on the hard truth of what happens. But we need to place statistics into their environment to gain context and understand what’s really happening. Geno Smith having 60% accuracy doesn’t tell you any information, but 60% accuracy throwing against man coverage gives you something to work with. That’s the purpose of this season-long project.

The New York Jets finally put an end to their month-long losing streak against the banged up Baltimore Ravens. The story lines heading into this game all centered around the long-called-for QB change to Geno Smith but it was the defense that ultimately stole the spotlight, showing flashes of the turnover-producing, QB-terrorizing unit we grew accustomed to seeing in 2015. They won this game on the back of their defense, who put together their best overall game of the season. The New York Jets made a fairly obvious decision today. They benched Ryan Fitzpatrick, who has been the worst starting quarterback in the NFL through six weeks and have turned his job over to their backup quarterback, Geno Smith. Where does the team go from here?
