Know Your Opponent: New Orleans Saints

Michael Meegan previews the Jets-Saints game.

Two teams ravaged by injury. Two QBs from Brigham Young University trying to show the league that they can hack it. Man, Sunday at MetLife is shaping up to be a rock fight.
Coaching: HC Sean Payton has been one of the best in the sport for over 15 years now. Payton has long been one of the best offensive minds we have in football and with 3 different QBs, OL injuries, and no skill talent he has really had to reach deep in his bag this season. DC Dennis Allen is one of the most underrated coaches in the league. Since coming back to NOLA after his stint with the Raiders he has had this Saints defense playing at an elite level. The man constantly confuses Tom Brady with his disguised looks and is going to be looking at a young pup like Zach Wilson like he’s food.
Personnel: Most of the good players on the Saints offense are hurt. All Pro tackle duo Tyron Armstead and Ryan Ramszyck will miss the game as well as WR Michael Thomas. RB Alvin Kamara returns injury and Kamara is an absolute star who can win a game by himself. Wildcat “QB” Taysom Hill is nursing Mallet finger so he should be even worse throwing the ball which seems impossible.

Even without DE Cam Jordan this Saints defense is ferocious. DE Marcus Davenport has started to finally consistently flash the immense potential he has always had going back to draft day. DT David Onyemata is one of the best run stuffing DL in the league and the backbone of one of the best run defenses in the league. LB Demario Davis and CB Marshon Lattimore are superstars. Malcom Jenkins and Marcus Williams are one of best safety duos in the sport and the Jets should be  heavily interested in Williams come free agency this March.

Potential Weaknesses: this Saints OL is without both starting tackles. It’s time for the Jets DL to step up and take advantage. Taysom Hill is not a real QB and will always be a weakness every time he is treated as such. The Saints have No WRs who scare anyone it’s the worst corps in the league. The Jets should live in man sell out to stop the run and Kamara and force them to beat their corners.
Matchup: I am terrified of Zach Wilson playing a Dennis Allen defense. Zach has not proven he can go through a game turnover free yet and how you bail out this anemic Saints offense is giving them short fields. Zach is also down his top 2 WRs in Corey Davis and Elijah Moore. The Jets run defense is abysmal and the return of Kamara plus Hill QB runs they could rush the ball 50  times and get the 20 points that is likely required to win. This is a big game for OC Mike Lafleur. If he can coach a solid game out of Zach against this defense it will really show how good a playcaller the Jets have on their hands.
Prediction: Saints 20 Jets 14. I don’t trust Zach to stay turnover free and I don’t trust the Jets to stop the run. This is going to be an UGLYYYYYY GAME.
