TOJ Pick Six w/ Stephen Zantz (Week 1 Jets/Panthers)

The PickSix column officially returns as TOJ Live Co-Host Stephen Zantz answers your Twitter questions. He, also, will consider questions that Joe Caporoso doesn’t get a chance to answer during his weekly Saturday AMAs. Don’t forget to tweet Stephen questions every week at @szantz on Twitter.

From @MrE2232: How many sacks on Darnold considering he has two backup guards against Q and Rankins? Even without Carl Lawson, this is a mouth-watering matchup for the Jets’ defensive line. My prediction is that the Jets get 4 sacks at the minimum but can see a scenario where they abuse the Panthers line and get 7. The 2016 home opener against the Bengals comes to mind where they absolutely dominated the trenches against Andy Dalton. I think Quinnen gets 2 sacks while Huff and JFM each get 1.

From @PriyaPr81564846 : Who will catch Sam’s first pick of the season week 1? I tweeted this out in my 5 predictions for the game and I think it will be Brandin Echols. He has crazy upside athletically and will flash this season. He will also struggle whenever the Jets are playing top-tier QBs (ex. Josh Allen). We are accustomed to seeing at least 1 boneheaded Darnold turnover weekly and I think the Jets force him to make a few mistakes.

From @PrayForJack: What positions do you feel the team will target in next year’s draft? CB, Edge, and ILB would be the top 3 with IOL as a close 4th. Cornerback should be the number one priority for Joe Douglas heading into 2022. A lot can change between now and then but I have a feeling only Hall and Echols are roster locks for 2022. I hope I am wrong but the CBs scare me. Derek Stingley from LSU would be a dream scenario but I think the Jets need to be in the top 4 to get him.

From @asciglitano1:Any room for power/gap scheme w/in their outside zone? They seem to have the bodies for both. My gut feeling is they stick with the outside zone scheme for the entire year given LaFleur’s coaching tree history. With that said, good coaching staffs will tailor the game plan to the opponent in an attempt to exploit identified weaknesses. I’ve said this before but what you saw from the 49ers in 2019 is exactly what you should expect out of the Jets’ 2021 rushing attack. I’m interested to see how Josh Adams is used during Perine’s absence.

From @draftniks: Over/under 5.5 wins for the Jets? I’ve gone back and forth on this so many times but will go with my gut and say over. I think the Jets get to 6 wins but it won’t be pretty. They will be competitive all year and will most likely lose in the last 7 mins of each game. Saleh will have this team playing hard and not looking disinterested in playing by halftime. 6 wins would be a lot of progress considering how terrible the team was in 2020.

From @MarcThought: Super Bowl prediction? I think we finally get the matchup we’ve wanted for the past 2 seasons: Chiefs vs Packers with Mahomes just edging out Rodgers for his second Lombardi trophy, which will lead Rodgers to be elsewhere in 2022. I think the Browns and Bucs will be their conference runner-ups respectively.
