Free Agency Rankings – SPENDING SEASON!

Here is a comprehensive list from Rotoworld but for brevity’s sake, here are a batch of names to keep an eye on.

Sorry, breh they aren’t changing teams: Drew Brees (QB), Le’Veon Ball (RB), DeMarcus Lawrence (Edge), Allen Robinson (WR), Sheldon Richardson (DT)

There is a small chance Robinson will hit the market but I wouldn’t get your hopes up on your favorite team landing any of these players, especially the first three listed.

About to get PAID: Kirk Cousins (QB), Trumaine Johnson (CB), Zeke Ansah (Edge), Andrew Norwell (OG), Malcolm Butler (CB), Nate Solder (OT), Justin Pugh (OT), Sammy Watkins (WR)

Cousins is the prize of the free agency class and will be the highest paid player in NFL history…for a short period of time. Johnson and Butler head a loaded cornerback market but how much better are they than the “second tier” of options available? Offensive linemen are always a priority and if Carolina is foolish enough to let Norwell walk, he’ll have a line of suitors out the door. Watkins could also be a franchise tag candidate.

Big Names, Meh Free Agents: Jimmy Graham (TE), Tyler Eifert (TE), Dion Lewis (RB), Navarro Bowman (LB), Vontae Davis (CB), Terrelle Pryor (WR), Carlos Hyde (RB)

In the right situation, each of these veterans can be a valuable piece but teams need to shop with caution considering the mix of injury history and signs of decline shown by everybody listed above. Lewis is likely to stay with New England.

Smart Shopping: EJ Gaines (CB), Bashaud Breeland (CB), Kyle Fuller (CB), Aaron Colvin (CB), Rashaan Melvin (CB), Jerrick McKinnon (RB), Tahir Whitehead (LB), Dontari Poe (DT), Rex Burkhead (RB), Marqise Lee (WR), Trey Buron (TE), Ryan Jensen (C), Spencer Long (C), Jack Mewhort (OG), Preston Brown (LB)

None of these guys are the top listed names at their position in most free agency lists but all will provide good value and upside. Smart teams will take advantage of their availability.

All The Other Quarterbacks: Case Keenum, Teddy Bridgewater, Sam Bradford, Tyrod Taylor, AJ McCarron

Just a draft a new QB…more seriously, both Keenum and Taylor are intriguing in the right situation.

Sleepers: Damian Williams (RB), Albert Wilson (WR), Mychal Rivera (TE), Alex Okafor (Edge), Nickell Robey-Coleman (CB), Ryan Grant (WR)

Overrated Snack of the Week

Dried Fruit!

Whenever my wife and I visit Boston we stay with her sister and husband. Now, my brother in law is a great guy but he is from Rhode Island…and one thing I’ve learned is people from Rhode Island have WEIRD taste when it comes to food. They put all type of bizarre crap on their pizza, soak everything in salt and keep snacks like DRIED MANGO in their cabinet instead of things like chips, pretzels and other things I’d like to drunkenly gorge on after multiple IPAs. You ever try to eat dried fruit after drinking 5 Heady Toppers?  It doesn’t work well. Eat fruit in the morning with your breakfast, not as a snack.

What Do I Watch Now?

Atlanta, FX – Back on March 1st, so catch up on season 1 now! An outside the box, creative show that is both funny and poignant. Donald Glover is a talented SOB. They are quick episodes so you won’t need to invest massive amounts of time getting up to speed.

Who Do I Read Now?

A Hologram For The King, Dave Eggers – Eggers is better known for “The Circle” which is also a very good read but this one is better, despite the terrible movie rendition of it starring Tom Hanks. It is sad but comical look at the decline of modern American business and sales packaged in a bizarre fictional story.

Last week we did one based on the Jets signing Kirk Cousins. This week is based on them NOT signing him and is using our friend Chris Trapasso’s Big Board on FanSpeak.

Check out this week’s radio spot with 1260 The Score – We are talking Eli McGuire, Trevor Siemian, Kirk Cousins and under the radar FAs
