New York Jets 53 Man Roster Prediction – Day Before Camp Edition

Joe Caporoso with a 53 man roster prediction on the day before the New York Jets open training camp

A quick 53 man roster projection on the day before the New York Jets open 2016 training camp…

Quarterback (3)

  1. Ryan Fitzpatrick
  2. Geno Smith
  3. Christian Hackenberg

If Fitzpatrick doesn’t sign (I’d put it at 60-70% likely he comes back), replace him with Josh McCown, Nick Foles or somebody like that. It would be surprising if the Jets kept 4 quarterbacks. Hello to the practice squad, Bryce Petty.

Running Back (4)

  1. Matt Forte
  2. Bilal Powell
  3. Khiry Robinson
  4. Tommy Bohanaon (FB)

If Robinson can’t get healthy Zac Stacy would be the next guy up but all indications are that he will be ready by the middle of the pre-season.

Wide Receiver (6)

  1. Brandon Marshall
  2. Eric Decker
  3. Devin Smith
  4. Kenbrell Thompkins
  5. Jeremy Ross
  6. Charone Peake

The Jets are hopeful Smith can get on the field this August but if not, Ross, Thompkins and Peake will all have increased opportunities. Ross is likely to be the team’s primary returner.

Tight End (3)

  1. Quincy Enunwa
  2. Jace Amaro
  3. Kellen Davis

Davis is somehow still around as the blocking tight end. Enunwa and Amaro will be movable chess pieces between H, Y and WR. Zach Sudfeld and/or Wes Saxton have a chance to potentially here with a strong camp.

Offensive Line (10)

  1. Nick Mangold
  2. Ryan Clady
  3. Breno Giacomini
  4. James Carpenter
  5. Brian Winters
  6. Brent Qvale
  7. Ben Ijalana
  8. Brandon Shell
  9. Jarvis Harrison
  10. Wesley Johnson

The Jets keep one more here than they would like for fear of losing Shell by putting him on the practice squad. Qvale/Ijalana are the top backups at tackle, Johnson is the backup is Mangold goes down. Harrison will push Winters at guard.

Defensive Line (6)

  1. Muhammad Wilkerson
  2. Leonard Williams
  3. Sheldon Richardson
  4. Steve McLendon
  5. Deon Simon
  6. Jarvis Jenkins

A rock solid, deep and versatile rotation for the Jets defensive front.

Linebacker (8)

  1. David Harris
  2. Erin Henderson
  3. Darron Lee
  4. Bruce Carter
  5. Jordan Jenkins
  6. Lorenzo Mauldin
  7. Mike Catapano
  8. Deion Barnes

There has been a nice infusion of speed here and the team likes their depth with Catapano, Barnes and Carter all likely to be useful situational players and special teamers. Lee still is not under contract.

Secondary (10)

  1. Darrelle Revis
  2. Marcus Williams
  3. Buster Skrine
  4. Calvin Pryor
  5. Marcus Gilchrist
  6. Dee MIlliner
  7. Dexter McDougle
  8. Juston Burris
  9. Rontez Miles
  10. Dion Bailey

It wouldn’t surprise me if Daryl Morris also stuck and the Jets carried one less offensive lineman or receiver. Ronald Martin will be pushing Bailey for the 4th safety spot.

Special Teams (3)

  1. Nick Folk
  2. Lachlan Edwards
  3. Tanner Purdum

I’m going with the veteran and the draft pick.

On The Bubble: Daryl Morris, Bryce Petty, Freddie Bishop, Dakota Dozier, Jalin Marshall, Taiwan Jones
