Strengths: Has the aggressive and gritty attitude needed to play linebacker in the NFL. Extremely physical and always seeking contact. Makes his presence known with heavy hits, especially when meeting halfbacks in the hole. Very instinctive and exhibits patience while waiting for a play to develop. Can diagnose a play and react with impressive speed. Knows how to use his hands against offensive lineman and can shed blocks. Pretty good athlete for his size. Has good enough lateral quickness to stay square to the LOS at all times and can play sideline to sideline. Uses good pursuit angles to cover up lack of natural speed. Reliable tackler and showed he can make tackles 1v1 in the open field. Accelerates as he closes on the ball-carrier to finish the job. Improved in both man and zone coverage this past year enough to be considered a three down linebacker. Capable of covering halfbacks and tight ends with middle tier speed in man coverage. Excels in short zones and is decent at recognizing/anticipating routes. Also flashed some pass rushing ability. Can play in all spots in a 4-3 or inside in a 3-4 defense.

Weaknesses: Lacks elite speed and athleticism. Needs to improve his overall strength. Has the tendency to just try and blast blockers off of him instead of getting his hands on and reacting/shedding. Aggressive mentality can sometimes get the best of him and struggled against play action at times because of it. His ability to control his body and breakdown in the open field to make a tackle can be improved. Tendency to forget his tackling basics and go for the big hit instead. Should continue to lose weight to improve speed and agility in preparation for NFL competition.

Projection: Scheme versatile linebackers like Reggie Ragland don’t come around too often. A team will hop on Ragland within the Top 25 selections.
