Jets Vs. Texans – Final Notes

John Hargaden with final notes for Jets vs Texans

What will the New York Jets need to do in order to get a much needed W today in Houston against the Texans? Let’s take a look..

Offense – This is a return trip for Ryan Fitzpatrick who was the starter for Houston last year. He is going to look to have a nice game against the team that did not want him back at the helm. As you look at this Texans defense, it all starts with one player JJ Watt who has had 34 solo tackles and 9.5 sacks. He will be going against Breno Giacomini and D’Brickashaw Ferguson. It is going to be critical to keep Watt under wraps, keep Fitzpatrick moving out of the pocket, quick passes, keep Watt guessing. With the likely return of Bilal Powell this week, we will finally see the Jets 1-2 punch at RB for the first time in weeks. The Texans allow on an average 118 rushing yards per game. If the Jets can get past Houston’s defensive line, they have spacing and tackling issues with their linebackers and secondary. If the Jets get into long conversions, look for the Texans to apply pressure especially with former number 1 pick Jadeveon Clowney. Brandon Marshall, in 3 career games versus the Texans has had an average of over 90 yards receiving. In the last few games, Marshall has dropped a few key passes. Look for him to get back on track with a BIG game.

Defense – Due to injury, TJ Yates will be getting the start tomorrow for the Houston Texans. He came in on Monday night and led what came out to be the winning TD drive against the Bengals. Yates was a 5th round pick for the Texans in the 2011 draft. He has started a few games in his career, the one people will remember the most was the 2012 Wild Card game beating the Bengals. The Texans running game has also taken a hit with the injury earlier this season to Arian Foster, their two main running backs are Alfred Blue and Jonathon Grimes. Their main weapon on offense and a top 10 WR in the NFL is the one and only DeAndre Hopkins who has 71 receptions and 7 TD’s coming into this game. Most likely the Jets will be without Sheldon Richardson. Look for Coach Bowles to use the blitz early and often and putting Yates on his back.

Prediction: I am calling this a must win game. The Jets are better on both sides of the ball in my opinion. They must establish the run, cause this Texans defense to play on its heels and keep them guessing.  he Jets will use a TE or FB to chip Watt at times to give Fitzpatrick a few extra moments to get the ball out. I feel the Jets blitz will get to Yates and he is going to make some mistakes. Get after the Texans early and I know the Jets will be flying home after a big win. Jets 24 Texans 10
