Jets vs. Raiders – Final Notes

John Hargaden with final notes on Jets vs. Raiders

The 4-2 New York Jets fly out to Oakland to face the surprising 3-3 Oakland Raiders on the first Sunday of November. Let’s review what the Jets will need to do on both sides of the ball…

Offense – Ryan Fitzpatrick faces today one of the worst secondaries in football in terms of yards allowed. Look once again for the Raiders to double team Brandon Marshall, just like what New England did last week. That means you will see Eric Decker most likely having LBs trying to cover him on occasion. With the activation of Stevan Ridley off the PUP, he will be the main backup to Chris Ivory, with Bilal Powell out again this week. Look for Ridley to be used in multiple ways including catching the ball out of the backfield. The Jets offensive line must contain Justin Tuck, Khalil Mack and Aldon Smith, which is not going to be easy. Nick Mangold, who is doubtful going into the game with a neck injury, will be a big loss if he is not able to go

Defense – Derek Carr has had a nice season so far for Oakland and his new weapon Amari Cooper has been impressive as well. He is on his way to a potential 1,000 yard season in his rookie year and is a favorite for the Offensive Rookie of the Year. Cooper faces his biggest challenge of the season so far, as he heads to Revis Island. This will be a interesting matchup all game and one to watch out for. The Jets must get pressure on Carr off of their defensive line and cause him problems early and often.

Prediction – I hate it when the Jets head out to the West Coast, especially Oakland.  Those loyal fans are nuts and it is called the Black Hole for a reason. It will be a tough environment. The Jets will have great success throwing the football. Look for Eric Decker and Brandon Marshall to have big games. Chris Ivory will have around 15-20 carries with Ridley having 8-10 with some catches out of the backfield. Derek Carr and Amari Cooper will be stranded on Revis Island and the Jets will cause 2 turnovers. The Jets will be 5-2 by 7:30 this evening. Jets 27 Raiders 14
