The 4-3 New York Jets welcome the 2-5 Jacksonville Jaguars to MetLife Stadium. Let’s take a look at what the Jets need to do in order to get a win….
Offense – Ryan Fitzpatrick will be under center on Sunday after suffering a left thumb injury. The Jets are lucky this injury was not on his throwing hand. This Jacksonville Defense is allowing over 100 yards per game on the ground. The past 2 weeks, Chris Ivory has had just a little over 50 yards rushing. Both the Patriots and Raiders were putting 7 to 8 guys in the box and forcing Fitzpatrick to throw the ball. With the likely return on Nick Mangold, I can see the Jets running the ball early to establish themselves. The Jaguars are allowing over 260 passing yards a game. A key will be to see if Brandon Marshall will play, he suffered a toe and ankle injury last week. If I was a betting man, we will see Marshall out there. Look for Fitzpatrick to get this offense rolling early, I can even see some no huddle to keep things moving and keep Jacksonville’s defense guessing.Defense – After getting torched by Oakland last week, look for this defense to look to be angry and make a statement. Last week the Jets missed over 19 tackles. Coach Todd Bowles had the team wearing pads on Wednesday to try to improve the tackling. This defensive line must cause pressure on Blake Bortles. Jacksonville does have some decent weapons especially at WR with Allen Hurns and Allen Robinson. Bortles has been sacked 19 times this season, this Jets defense needs to cause pressure early to make Bortles feel uncomfortable in the pocket. Look for Jacksonville to try to unleash Julius Thomas, their big TE acquisition from Denver. RB TJ Yeldon has been averaging 4 yards per carry so far this season.
Prediction – Enough is enough, this team must bounce back after two losses. The Jets team is better than Jacksonville in every area. You are at home in front of your fans, dominate early and leave no doubt. I expect Ryan Fitzpatrick to throw 2 TD’s and Ivory to establish himself once again with 100 yards on the ground. This defense is going to dominate and cause multiple turnovers. Going into a short week with a Thursday night matchup against Buffalo, the Jets will be 5-3 Jets 28 Jaguars 13
