60 Day-New York Jets Warning – The Jets West Saga

Counting down the reasons to be excited about the 2013 New York Jets season…moving away from discussing Jets West

Here at Turn On The Jets, we decided to take a page out of Robert Mays book over at Grantland (a polite way of saying rip his article idea off) by counting down the 115 days until the New York Jets kick off, with a daily reason to get excited about their return. Mays has the whole NFL to work with, we only have the Goddamn Jets…now there is a challenge, step your game up Mays!

We continue today with a look at moving towards the end of discussing JETS WEST (Note, you can track this entire series right here)

Jets West is a perfect story for the first couple of weeks in July. The NFL schedule is in a rare lull and everybody is exceedingly anxious for training camp to start. The Mark Sanchez led workouts in California become a sounding board for whatever your individual opinion is of a specific player on the team.

You hate Mark Sanchez? Jets West is LAME. Bougie dinner menu. California sunshine. Backwards snapbacks. A weak list of roster attendees that apparently doesn’t include Santonio Holmes, Jeremy Kerley or Kellen Winslow Jr. Basically, Jets West equates to a bunch sissies catching a tan all day before going to dance around with young women all night, who may or may not put a video of it online.

You love Mark Sanchez? LEADERSHIP! Sanchez is still working, still getting after it and doing everything possible to resurrect his career. The weak attendee list is because Holmes is rehabbing, besides he is getting reps with the young guys who could get forced into playing time.  Chris Ivory is there and he might the most important offensive player on the team. Stephen Hill is there and he needs the work!

You like Geno Smith? Good thing he didn’t attend! He should be doing his own thing…no need for all that prattling around with Sanchez and his el futbol headbands. You dislike Geno Smith? LAZY. ENTITLED. What is he doing that is better? He should be building chemistry with his new receivers.

It moves past the quarterbacks, as any skill position player that isn’t in attendance has a good reason not to be there…if you like the player or has no excuse to miss it…if you dislike the player.

Ultimately, all Jets West is a teammates working out together for 4-5 days and doing light drill work without pads on. It doesn’t hurt in preparation and it isn’t going to cause season altering improvements. The amount of buzz around it is only because things are s-l-o-w right now in the world of NFL and Jets news.

NEW YORK DAILY NEWS STORY PITCH OF THE DAY – 1,900 word expose from Gary Myers on Rex Ryan’s decision to run with the bulls in Spain. “Rex could have stayed in Florham Park to break down that extra day or two of Tom Brady tape. Yet, the Jets rambunctious leader decided to start running and maybe that wasn’t misguided since he is already halfway out the door in New York and may be running from the press come this November or December. Rex should be back here…making sure his players are staying out of trouble…like Tom Coughlin or Bill Belichick who are true leaders of men.”

RANDOM JET OF THE DAY – ALEX VAN DYKE! Somewhere in Denver…Alex Van Dyke is currently fumbling.
