New York Jets 2013 Offensive Line Outlook

Resident Offensive Line guru Mike Nolan takes a look at the state of the Jets Offensive Line for the 2013 Season.

Everyone’s heard football clichés like “The Game is won in the trenches” and “It all starts up front.” These are generally sayings that parents of offensive lineman use to try and make their kids sound important. But they may ring true for the Jets more than any other team in the NFL.  If the Jets want to take a big step forward offensively in 2013, they will need to rely on their offensive line to take them there. The ideal situation is that the Jets improve both their run game and pass game over the 2012 Sparano system and nobody really talks about the OLine.  When nobody is talking about offensive linemen that means they are doing their jobs. It is when people start talking about them when you know something is wrong.  Let’s see how much people will be talking about the Jets’ offensive line in 2013.

With Matt Slauson recently signing with the Chicago Bears and the impending departure of Brandon Moore, it is becoming more and more likely that New York Jets free agent signing Willie Colon will be a starter at one of the Guard spots. Colon was signed to a one year, $1.2 million dollar deal, the right price for a guy who has played only 12 games in the past 3 years. New York Jets Sign Willie Colon To Start At Guard

The New York Jets signed former Pittsburgh Steelers OL Willie Colon

The New York Jets signed former Pittsburgh Steelers offensive lineman Willie Colon to a 1 year, 1.2 million dollar contract today. Colon had spent his entire career (2006-2011) playing Tackle before moving to Guard last season, where he graded out as a top 15 run blocking Guard and top 25 pass blocking Guard according to Pro Football Focus. However, he was one of the most heavily penalized Guards in the league and did miss some time with injuries.
