Should Potential New York Jets QB Josh Rosen Shut Up And Throw?

Dalbin Osorio on why Josh Rosen should never “just shut up and throw”

“That’s just not me,” Josh Rosen says of the designer labels offered to him during an ESPN The Magazine shoot.

In a word: no. It is not him, just like him having to shut up and throw is not him. Josh Rosen, the best QB in this draft to this writer, has been heavily scrutinized more for what happens to him off the field than anything that could happen to him on the field. Before they even mention the 61% completion rate, they talk about the hat he wore to send a message on a golf course. Without discussing his two to one interception ratio, they rip apart his comments defending current Jacksonville Jaguar RB Leonard Fournette for not playing in a Bowl Game. Rosen openly talks about wanting to win multiple Super Bowls, and the retort becomes “he didn’t even win a Pac 12 title.” That is maybe the only time the criticism is kept on the field. You hear their tone though: less is more, they say, and Rosen needs to start giving less.

NFL Player Development – Positional Competition

Dan Essien explores the effects of positional competition when it comes to player development in the NFL…

The New York Jets are in the process of rebuilding their roster. A key element to that is player development. One of the most underrated elements of player development in football is positional competition. It’s true that talent often rises to the top regardless of what’s around them. But an often overlooked potential accelerant to development is who’s making them better in the days between games. Typically the best help a player can get midweek is great coaching. But often its their teammates that drive them to get better. I’m not talking about players at the same position competing here, though. I’m talking about iron sharpening iron. Offensive players making defensive players better and visa versa. QB vs. secondary, safety vs. tight end, wide receiver vs. cornerback, etc. Let’s take a look at the role of counter-positional competition in player development.

NFL Draft 2018 – What The New York Jets Should Do With The Third Pick…

Joe Caporoso breaks down the consensus top four quarterbacks in the 2018 NFL Draft and advocates for what the New York Jets should do with the third overall pick…

The New York Jets are on the cusp of making their most important draft pick since they moved up in the 2009 NFL Draft to select quarterback Mark Sanchez. Since Sanchez’s short lived, occasionally successful but ultimately failed brief Jets career, the team has not taken an offensive player in the first round of the NFL Draft and has taken timid, meager swings at fixing the most important position in sports. This offseason that will change when they take a quarterback with the third overall pick (yes, they are 100% taking quarterback). As it stands today, there are three names generally considered to be in the running for the selection. How should the Jets go about making their decision when taking a closer examination of the differentiating factors between these quarterbacks?
