NFL Draft – 2018 QB Prospect Tracker: Final Edition

Joe Malfa with his weekly ranking and trackers of college quarterbacks…

These quarterback trackers began under the impression the Jets would be a lock for a top-five pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. Some early wins put that into question, but a recent losing skid has them back on track for the top-five. ESPN’s Football Power Index predicts they will end up with the sixth overall pick, which would oddly be the third time Mike Maccagnan has picked from that slot in his four drafts with the Jets (assuming he is not fired).

Wherever they end up, the Jets will have a shot at a franchise quarterback in a QB-heavy draft class, so Joe Malfa kept a close eye on the performances of college’s top quarterback prospects this week as he has throughout the season.

Here are his final rankings of the college football season, and check back for the beginning of his draft coverage during bowl season:

New York Jets Loss Monday – The Vent, Week 12

Joe Caporoso with a loss vent on the New York Jets 35-27 defeat to the Carolina Panthers

The New York Jets have lost football games in a repeating and familiar way this season. They enter a game as underdogs, they gain an early lead, they head into the fourth quarter, either winning or narrowly behind but then ultimately lose in gut wrenching fashion. This season they are 2-5 in one possession games and outside of Jacksonville are yet to score what could really be classified as an “upset” in hindsight. Where does this leave them with five games left at 4-7?

TOJ Game of Tanks Episode One: How Close Are The New York Jets to the Iron Throne?

Dalbin Osorio breaks down the current NFL Draft order, Game of Thrones style…

With the NFL regular season winding down, the Game of Tanks is beginning to come into focus. We’ve removed the would-be usurpers from the board, like the Chargers and Rams, and surprise threats have emerged, like the Raiders and Broncos. The Jets entered the season the favorites to lay claim to the throne: with no dragons (offensive playmakers) to speak of, the Jets’ claim lay in the belief that they were the rightful heir to the Iron Throne (number one pick).

This, despite their nephew-in-tank (the Cleveland Browns) sitting on the throne to begin the season, and serial draft plotter Cersei Sashi Brown using unconventional means (Paul DePodesta’s wild fire) to line the war chests with precious currency. The Jets, also, had to worry about a once-proud family, the 49ers, aligning themselves with the Lord of Light Success (Kyle Shanahan) and choosing to deploy a stealth and deceptive approach to build their army, all while being willing to unsuspectingly release JimmySandre. The Niners are trying to determine whether they go North to the Wall and spend their cap space or do they head toward the Iron Throne through payment of draft capital? There is a lot of intrigue swirling in the Game of Tanks, where you either win or lose, and a loss could mean you join Russell Wilson Stark and the Legion of Direwolves. The North always remembers.

Initial Reaction – Same Movie, Different Day: Jets Competitive But Lose 35-27

Joe Caporoso with initial reaction to the New York Jets 35-27 loss to the Carolina Panthers…

The New York Jets played a familiar game today, punching above their weight for three quarters before ultimately collapsing in the fourth in a close game. Their 35-27 loss to the Carolina Panthers effectively ends any 2017 playoffs discussion, particularly with their remaining schedule. This team is good enough to compete every single week but not talented enough at the premium positions or well coached enough to beat good teams in close games. Nobody should have felt comfortable up 20-18 today and nobody should be shocked the team found a way to lose, after what happened against Atlanta, New England and Miami this year.
