Every year NFL teams suffer major losses due to injuries. Last season, the New York Jets lost two key role players in Antwan Barnes and Mike Goodson to season ending knee injuries. Ironically, both were the Jets’ most notable free agent acquisitions just a few months before going down.
With the 2014 free agency period in full swing and the draft on the horizon, many have forgotten both of these players plan on returning to gang green for the 2014-2015 season. Continue reading “Road To Redemption: The Lost And Found”
It’s Friday and we’ve all had almost a full week to soak in and analyze that disaster of a game last week in Tennessee. This week our boys in green are traveling down to Atlanta for a primetime game against the Falcons in a game in which they’re double digit underdogs. Yikes. A quick refresher on New York Jets RB Mike Goodson, who will rejoin the team this week
The New York Jets will be boosted this week by the return of running back and kick returner Mike Goodson. After being signed in the off-season to a three year contract, Goodson was suspended for the first four games for violating the NFL’s policy and program for substances of abuse.
Despite Bilal Powell’s terrific start (66 carries, 292 yards, 11 receptions, 108 yards), the Jets could badly use Goodson’s speed and explosiveness on both offense and special teams. They have been one of the worst return teams in football and are thin at running back with Chris Ivory nursing a hamstring injury. Powell is a very effective inside runner but Goodson should be able to bring some punch on outside runs and in the screen game.
Here is a quick refresher on his game and what he could bring to the table.

We’ve sung the praises of both here at TOJ but we wanted to dig a little deeper into the reasons for our excitement, so we sought out Pro Football Focus and a handful of writers who previously covered Ivory and Goodson. Let’s take a closer look…

The New York Jets are reportedly interested in trading for New Orleans Saints Restricted Free Agent Running Back, Chris Ivory. The Jets hosted Ivory for a visit on Friday, but are unlikely to sign him to an offer sheet due to the second round tender New Orleans placed on him earlier this offseason. New York would prefer to exchange a later round draft pick for Ivory, rather than surrendering the 39th overall pick, according to multiple reports.
