Mike Donnelly of TurnOnTheJets breaks down the New York Jets lineup changes on defense heading into 2014.
It’s no secret that the New York Jets defense has been the backbone of the team since the day Rex Ryan arrived. In 2013, the unit was able to rebuild on the fly as they had seven new starters, including two rookies, and still managed to field a very good defense. The stats are somewhat skewed thanks to an offense that constantly turned the ball over and put them in bad situations, but they still finished 11th overall with 334.9 yards a game. With a more experienced unit heading into 2014, how are they shaping up compared to last year’s squad? Let’s take a look. Continue reading “Grading the New York Jets 2014 Lineup Changes (Defense)”
Mike Donnelly of TOJ grades the New York Jets 2014 lineup compared to last year’s team
Now that the dust has settled after the NFL draft, we have a better idea of what the New York Jets are going to look like when they open up the 2014 season in a few months against the Raiders. General Manager John Idzik faced a ton of criticism during free agency from impatient fans and media types, but it’s clear by now that he has a plan and he’s sticking to it. He’s going to build this team how he sees fit, mainly by building through the draft.
But just how improved is this year’s team over last year’s 8-8 squad? Well, just as I did a year ago, I’m going to find out by going position by position and comparing last year’s team to what we expect to see come September. And also just like last year, I’m going to use the very scientific and accurate “Tebows” Rating System! Continue reading “Grading the New York Jets 2014 Lineup Changes (Offense)”
Mike Donnelly of TOJ breaks down what the New York Jets should NOT do this offseason
March has arrived and the offseason rumor mill is in full swing. Free agency is just around the corner and then before we know it, the draft will be here. As we all know, it’s a lot of fun to speculate about what our favorite team will do to improve the roster, and everyone has their own opinion as to how the Jets and John Idzik should go about doing that. Whether it’s on Twitter, fan forums, blogs, or just chatting with buddies, everyone wants to tell you what the team should do. Well I’m not here to tell you what Idzik should be doing this offseason (ok, well, I kinda am…), I’m here to tell you what the the Jets SHOULDN’T do. That’s right, I present to you, the Anti-Offseason Plan! Continue reading “The New York Jets Anti-Offseason”
Mike Donnelly of TOJ breaks down the New York Jets roster and predicts who will return in 2014.
Now that the New York Jets 2013 has officially ended, it is time to turn the page and look forward to 2014. The future is certainly bright for the Jets and fans have reason to be excited. With a ton of cap space and perhaps as many as 12 draft choices, there will be plenty of new faces by next season.
But what about the current roster? Which players will be back in green next year and which will be taking their talents (or in some cases, their lack of talent) elsewhere? Let’s take a look at the current roster and individual’s chances of returning. Continue reading “New York Jets Looking Ahead: Who Stays and Who Goes?”
Last week was a step back in my quest to get over .500 for the season and my Best Bets bombed to drop me below .500 on the season in that category as well. Hell, I even lost my teaser pick, which I’ve been pretty good at this season. It’s my own fault though really… I mean, what the HELL was I thinking being so high on the Giants?! Ugh. Oh well, it’s time to move on and take a look at Week 16, which has a few games I absolutely love. A big week is coming, I can feel it. Let’s get on with the show… Continue reading “TOJ Week 16 NFL Gambling Advice and Picks”
I’m coming off a good week here with my NFL Gambling column and I’m just about even on the season, which is pretty darn good considering how terribly I started. This is a tough week of games to predict here, but there are a couple I really like. One thing is for sure, however: Expect the unexpected. That’s just the way the NFL works at this point in the season, so don’t be surprised to see some crazy stuff today… Continue reading “TOJ Week 15 NFL Gambling Advice and Picks”
Back in my week 1 gambling article, I said that we would all blink and before we knew it week 13 would be here. Well, week 13 is here and it sure does seem like this season has flown by, doesn’t it? On the bright side, I’m coming off my best week of the season picking games so far as I went 10-4 and 4-1 on my best bets in week 12. In fact, the past four weeks have been great in general and I’m almost back over .500 for the season. It’s kind of depressing that I’m on such a hot streak and still under .500 but whatever, that can’t bring me down. I’m feeling great about this week and looking to keep it rolling along. Let’s get to it… Continue reading “Week 13 NFL Gambling Advice and Picks”
Well, that hot streak sure was fun while it lasted. Then week 11 happened and crushed me in a monster way. I went just 5-8-2 and even worse, lost what I called my favorite pick of the season so far as the Patriots lost to the referees — uhh, I mean the Panthers on Monday night. Actually, it’s not really fair to say the refs cost them that game (even though they did) because the Patriots pretty much beat themselves. Their secondary is the gold standard when it comes to proving that Pro Football Focus is merely a tool and not the gospel when it comes to grading football players because despite their high rankings, they are pretty crappy, and Fumbles Ridley is just a horrible player. Can you tell I’m still bitter about that game? Let’s just move on to week 12… Continue reading “TOJ Week 12 NFL Gambling Advice and Picks”
Week 11 has arrived and so has my long-awaited picks hot streak! I told you it couldn’t stay that bad forever, and in the last two weeks thinks really started to heat up for me… which probably means I’m do for a massive disappointment and a 1-14 week or something like that. But let’s try to avoid all that and ride this hot streak at least one more week. In the past two weeks I’m 17-8-1 and Best Bets are 7-3. And yes that’s me puffing out my chest and patting myself on the back. Deal with it! Let’s get on with the show… Continue reading “TOJ Week 11 NFL Gambling Advice and Picks”
Did everybody have a nice bye week? The Jets sure did, just look at the results across the AFC since the last time they’ve played a game. The Dolphins brought the circus to town and are in the middle of a ridiculous hazing scandal which effectively ruined their season, the Titans lost to the winless Jaguars (and then again last night), and the Bills lost in Pittsburgh. And to add to that, the Jets are adding Kellen Winslow, Santonio Holmes, and some guy named Ed Reed to the roster this week. So why does this week’s game in Buffalo scare the hell out of me? Let’s do some buying and selling… Continue reading “TOJ Stock Watch: Jets vs. Bills II Edition”
