Initial Reaction – New York Jets Select Edge Jachai Polite In 3rd Round

Joe Caporoso with initial reaction to the New York Jets selecting Florida Edge Jachai Polite in the third round

The New York Jets addressed their long standing need at edge rusher with their first third round pick of the night by selecting Florida edge rusher Jachai Polite. One of the more divisive prospects in the class, Polite was a highly productive college player at the top level of competition who struggled in the pre-draft process, moving him from a potential first round pick into day two. Initial Reaction – New York Jets Select DT Quinnen Williams

Joe Caporoso with initial reaction to the New York Jets taking DT Quinnen Williams third overall

The New York Jets stayed put with the third overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft and selected Alabama DT Quinnen Williams. He will join Leonard Williams, Henry Anderson and Steve McLendon to form a very talented defensive line (sound familiar?) and bring a unique pass rushing ability to the group. To be clear, this Williams is a superior prospect to the four other recent interior defensive linemen the Jets have taken in round one and is arguably the most talented player in this draft class.

Odds to win the AFC Conference in 2020 have recently been released. If you’re looking to get into betting on sports this might be one you want to avoid as the Jets have some of the longest odds at +2500, unless you think the Jets are being vastly underrated!

Deep Dive – New York Jets Passing Game Flexibility

Joe Caporoso on the New York Jets passing game options and flexibility with their current depth chart

The New York Jets have an intriguing collection of pass catchers heading into the 2019 NFL Draft. It is a far from a perfect group and could use further depth but there has been a tangible improvement in talent, explosiveness and versatility compared to last year’s group. Last season the top five most targeted players on the team were Robby Anderson, Jermaine Kearse, Quincy Enunwa, Chris Herndon and Elijah McGuire. This season (and this is unlikely to change regardless of what happens in the draft) Kearse and McGuire have been swapped out with Jamison Crowder and Le’Veon Bell, respectively.
