New York Jets: Season Not Ended By One Loss

Mike Donnelly of TOJ says why fans should still believe in the 2014 New York Jets despite the loss to the Green Bay Packers

Let’s get something out of the way right off the bat. The New York Jets loss to the Packers was a gut punch and inexcusable considering the 18 point lead. I know it, you know it, Rex Ryan knows it, worst punter in the NFL Ryan Quigley knows it, everyone knows it. I’m not letting anyone off the hook, and I know there’s plenty of blame to go around…What I am going to say is how despite that loss, there’s an awful lot to like about this team through two weeks. There, now that we got that out of the way, let’s get started!

2014 NFL Draft: Five “Rex Ryan” Prospects

Although the front office controls a majority of the NFL Draft operations, head coach Rex Ryan still has a strong input on selections (see Milliner, Dee and Richardson, Sheldon). Who are a few players Rex has his eye on in this year’s draft? Let’s take a look: Continue reading “2014 NFL Draft: Five “Rex Ryan” Prospects”

New York Jets Looking Ahead: Who Stays and Who Goes?

Mike Donnelly of TOJ breaks down the New York Jets roster and predicts who will return in 2014.

Now that the New York Jets 2013 has officially ended, it is time to turn the page and look forward to 2014. The future is certainly bright for the Jets and fans have reason to be excited. With a ton of cap space and perhaps as many as 12 draft choices, there will be plenty of new faces by next season.

But what about the current roster? Which players will be back in green next year and which will be taking their talents (or in some cases, their lack of talent) elsewhere? Let’s take a look at the current roster and individual’s chances of returning. Continue reading “New York Jets Looking Ahead: Who Stays and Who Goes?”

Initial Reaction – That’s How You Finish: Jets Win…Rex Returns

Joe Caporoso with reaction to the New York Jets week 17 win and the announcment of Rex Ryan’s return

The New York Jets ended the season with an exclamation point today in Miami, knocking their division rival Dolphins out of the playoffs with an impressive 20-7 victory. Basically immediately after the game, Owner Woody Johnson announced that Rex Ryan will return as the Jets head coach in 2014. We haven’t received word about a contract extension but it is likely the Jets will add a year or two on to his deal. There are also rumblings that the defensive coaching staff could be shook up a little bit, so stay tuned for further information on that front.

A Day At MetLife – Jets vs. Browns

In what was regarded by many as a “meaningless” game, the New York Jets beat the Cleveland Browns with an impressive effort on Sunday. Many teams often crumble once they are mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, but the Jets fought like a team with new life. Rookie quarterback Geno Smith was efficient with three touchdowns and no turnovers. The defense held tough on their own end of the field multiple times. Overall, it was an exciting game to watch, especially from the south end zone. I was fortunate enough to attend the game with my father, a life long Jets fan since the Shea Stadium days.  Continue reading “A Day At MetLife – Jets vs. Browns”

TOJ Stock Watch: Jets vs. Bills II Edition

Did everybody have a nice bye week? The Jets sure did, just look at the results across the AFC since the last time they’ve played a game. The Dolphins brought the circus to town and are in the middle of a ridiculous hazing scandal which effectively ruined their season, the Titans lost to the winless Jaguars (and then again last night), and the Bills lost in Pittsburgh. And to add to that, the Jets are adding Kellen Winslow, Santonio Holmes, and some guy named Ed Reed to the roster this week. So why does this week’s game in Buffalo scare the hell out of me? Let’s do some buying and selling… Continue reading “TOJ Stock Watch: Jets vs. Bills II Edition”

Stock Watch: Jets Building a Winner the Right Way

It wasn’t that long ago that all of the NFL “experts” and pundits out there considered the New York Jets to be a complete and total joke. The team was considered to be such a “circus” that wouldn’t even be able to find a new General Manager because the job was so undesirable. They were so hopeless that their head coach was on the hot seat and might be fired midway through the season. They had to trade their best player away and didn’t stand a chance heading into 2013, or 2014, or any time soon for that matter. You remember all of that, right? Well not only does that all look silly as the Jets are in playoff contention after seven weeks, but the Jets are in the process of building something great here. And this time, they’re doing it the right way.  Continue reading “Stock Watch: Jets Building a Winner the Right Way”

TOJ Stock Watch: Patriots Week

It’s Patriots week! Sure, the New York Jets are coming off a terrible performance just a week ago at home against Pittsburgh to drop them to 3-3, but all Jets fans should be excited for Patriots week. Sure, all the stats and trends point towards the Pats blowing the Jets out, as they always seem to do in the second matchup of the season (last year involved the infamous “buttfumble” on Thanksgiving), but there is reason for hope this week, as the extremely banged up Patriots roll into the Meadowlands. A Jets win would bring them to within one game of the division lead, and the playoffs would start to look like a legit possibility. Let’s get to buying and selling all things Jets as we look forward to Sunday… Continue reading “TOJ Stock Watch: Patriots Week”

TOJ Stock Watch: New York Jets vs. Steelers Edition

TOJ Buying and selling all things New York Jets as they get ready to face the Pittsburgh Steelers

As we all know by now, the Jets sit at 3-2 after five weeks and are hosting the Pittsburgh Steelers this week in what is shaping up as a huge game. The Steelers may be winless, but they’re coming off a bye and are still a scary foe. If the Jets win, they could be playing the Patriots the following week with first place in the division on the line, which is still a little bit surreal to even think about. But let’s not look past the Steelers in what should definitely be a tight game and a great test for Geno Smith and his Jets. Let’s go ahead and do some buying and selling… Continue reading “TOJ Stock Watch: New York Jets vs. Steelers Edition”
