With the season rapidly coming off the rails for the Jets, it is time to start looking to the future. If the season ended today, the Jets would own the 5th pick in the draft. The current mid-season mock drafts have the Jets using that pick on either Leonard Fournette or Jabrill Peppers. Our Joe Malfa explores which player would be the better option for the Jets:
The 2014 New York Jets hit rock bottom. Whoever inherited the team in 2015 was not inheriting a quick fix, despite the cap situation left by John Idzik. This year has been a crash back to earth to just how far the Jets still have to go. Below are a few examples of teams that were in a position similar to the Jets in one way or another fairly recently, and how they’ve turned it around. Let’s take a look at what everyone – from the fans and their expectations, the ownership, to the men in charge of running the team – can learn from these franchises.
Even though the 2017 NFL Draft is eight months away, It’s never too early to look ahead at some of the potential top prospects. The 2017 draft class looks as if it will be deep at the runningback position with big name prospects like LSU’s Leonard Fournette and Stanford’s Christian McCaffrey headlining the group. The group of EDGE defenders also looks strong with Texas A&M star Myles Garrett and Auburn’s Carl Lawson being talked about as potential top five picks. And like the past few years, there are two quarterbacks, Deshaun Watson and Brad Kaaya, that will be fighting for the title of best in the class. But as we all know, a lot can change immensely in eight months. The number one overall pick in the 2017 Draft could be a player that no one is talking about right now and that is one of the greatest things about this event.
After a brief film study from last year’s games, I’ve compiled a list of the Top 10 potential prospects for the 2017 NFL Draft. Some of these players are underclassmen and although they are eligible to enter the draft, they may elect to stay at school in hopes of raising their draft stock or to finish their college degrees. These rankings are not final and will undoubtedly change multiple of times as we go through the college football season.
