New York Jets Draft Sheldon Richardson, Predictions For Rounds 2-3

With the 13th pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, the New York Jets selected Missouri Defensive Tackle Sheldon Richardson. While this move seemed to have many fans, analysts, and spectators confused considering the overall depth on the defensive line, along with the immense amount of holes throughout the roster, Jets General Manager John Idzik was adamant in his draft approach of selecting talent over specific position. According to Idzik, Richardson and CB Dee Milliner, selected by the Jets with the 9th overall pick, were two of the top players on New York’s board and, although Idzik entertained trade offers, he did not feel as though these offers surpassed the grades he had on either player.

Are we so sure that Rex Ryan is a lame duck coach who has no influence in Florham Park anymore? Tonight felt an awful lot like many previous drafts with Rex Ryan as the head coach, as the New York Jets selected a defensive lineman in the first round for the third straight year and added a cornerback in the first round for the second time in three years.

New York Jets Draft – The Case For Tavon Austin

The case for the New York jets drafting West Virginia wide receiver Tavon Austin

One of the most intriguing options for the New York Jets in the upcoming NFL Draft is West Virginia  wide receiver Tavon Austin. Surprisingly there seems to be many Jets fans hesitant about using the 9th or 13th pick on him, despite him providing strong value at either location. Among the complaints I consistently hear about Austin are his lack of size, durability issues, a lack of need for him because of Jeremy Kerley being the team’s slot receiver and him not having the capability to be a lead playmaker on offense. These excuses to avoid Austin are misguided. The Jets offense is in desperate need for a player like Austin, who is a truly a “wow” player, something the Jets have lacked seemingly forever.

It’s nearly impossible–no it IS impossible–to accurately predict what every team in the draft is going to do when Roger Goodell takes the podium (BOOO!!!) on Thursday night. But that can’t stop us from hoping certain things are going to happen before John Idzik hands in his first card as General Manager of the New York Jets, right? As we know, the Jets hold the 9th and 13th picks in this year’s first round, and if things break right, the 2013 draft could go a long way towards turning this team around. Let’s break down the things we WANT to see happen before the Jets are on the clock, so that the team is left with the best possible options.
