Mike Donnelly of TOJ breaks down the week 4 NFL gambling lines and makes his picks.
Week 4 of the NFL season has arrived (Where have the past 3 weeks gone?!) and we are at the point of the season where we separate the men from the boys when it comes to NFL gambling. Now is the point where Vegas starts putting out extra sharp lines now that they have a feel for the teams and they start to unleash wild traps and tricks to trip up Joe Public. Well, this year I refuse to be tricked. Not only do I have the power of #FadeFlorio behind me, but I’m feeling pretty confident that I can sniff out these traps and tricks. There are a few games this week that I absolutely love, and it’s time to unload some of our winnings from the first three weeks on some big boy bets. Lets dive in! Continue reading “TOJ Week 4 NFL Gambling Advice and Picks”
Don’t look now, but we’re off to a hell of a start here picking games and winning bets here in this space. Of course, that would normally mean I’m due for a huge letdown and a 2-14 week is on deck, but I think this year is different. This year I have my ace in the hole. This year I have Mike Florio of PFT on my side!. As you may remember, for the first two weeks of the season I unveiled my #FadeFlorio campaign, and the very worst of all the terrible NFL writers in the world has not let me down en route to a 9-23 start to the season against the spread. I’m sitting pretty at a respectable 18-14 including 8-2 in my best bets, but it’s getting to the point we should all just blindly fade Florio and collect our winnings. Let’s dive into week 3 and get started. Continue reading “TOJ Week 3 NFL Gambling Advice and Picks”
Mike Donnelly of TOJ says why fans should still believe in the 2014 New York Jets despite the loss to the Green Bay Packers
Let’s get something out of the way right off the bat. The New York Jets loss to the Packers was a gut punch and inexcusable considering the 18 point lead. I know it, you know it, Rex Ryan knows it, worst punter in the NFL Ryan Quigley knows it, everyone knows it. I’m not letting anyone off the hook, and I know there’s plenty of blame to go around…What I am going to say is how despite that loss, there’s an awful lot to like about this team through two weeks. There, now that we got that out of the way, let’s get started!

Last week as you may remember, I unveiled my plan to pick one absolutely horrible NFL writer each week and post their picks here in this space up against my picks. For week 1, I went with the guy who may very well know the least about football out of them all, PFT honcho, Mike Florio.
I was going to switch it up and use another bozo like Pete Prisco or something for week 2, but after Florio went a whopping 5-11 against the spread last week, I’ve decided to ride him again this week. I made all of my picks that I felt most strongly about on my own, but when in doubt, I’m gonna #FadeFlorio. That has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it? Let’s get started! Mike Donnelly of TOJ breaks down an article proclaiming the Giants better than the New York Jets from Jason Keidel
A few weeks back I wrote an article breaking down a particular crappy column by Gary Myers of the Daily News. I borrowed the format from an old awesome website called Fire Joe Morgan (FJM) that used to pick apart things in a similar fashion, and we got pretty good feedback here from it. I’ve been waiting for another column to pop up that could match that level of absolute garbage, and today I believe I’ve found it!

Mike Donnelly of TOJ breaks down the week 1 NFL Gambling betting lines and gives his picks.
Week 1 of the NFL season is great for many reasons. Not only do you get to cheer on your favorite team and live or die with them for four months, but you get to enjoy everything else that comes with it. You wear your jersey of your favorite player or your lucky t-shirt, you eat buffalo wings and drink a few (dozen) beers with your friends while you watch games, you play fantasy football and talk trash, and of course, you get to bet on games! And that’s what this space right here is going to be about every week leading up to the games: Gambling on games and picking winners (hopefully). Mike Donnelly of TOJ answers readers questions about how to form a perfect Fantasy Football league.
It’s that magical time of the year… Fantasy Football is here! Last year I did all you fantasy football players a favor and published a revised version of my 8 Rules for a Perfect Fantasy League (which can be found HERE). It’s pretty much a step-by-step guide on how to create your league, what scoring system you should use, and pretty much anything else you can think of. I was going to update it and make a Volume 3 for this year, but that would be boring. Instead I’m going to just link to the articles from last year and answer a bunch of the questions and comments that were posted on them here. So, without further adieu, let’s empty the fantasy football mailbag…. Continue reading “The Fantasy Football Mailbag”
Mike Donnelly of TurnOnTheJets critiques a column by Gary Myers of the Daily News calling for Michael Vick to start over Geno Smith for the New York Jets.
As we all know, the media coverage for our New York Jets can be insufferable at times. Sure, there are plenty of very good beat writers and columnists who do a great job covering the team, but too often they get overshadowed by the pure garbage that gets printed, which is a shame.
Speaking of garbage, Gary Myers wrote a column today! It was a doozy too, in which he discussed the Jets “quarterback controversy” while making his case for Michael Vick being the starter. At least, I think that was his premise, because the whole thing was a sloppy mess that ran off the rails pretty quickly. So grab a drink, sit down, and let’s analyze this…

Mike Donnelly of Turn On The Jets interviews New York jets rookie Tight End, Jace Amaro.
It is no secret that many of us here on Turn On The Jets were huge fans of Jace Amaro heading into the NFL draft this year. Personally, I felt like he had all the tools to be a perfect fit in Marty Mornhinweg’s offense and he would do wonders for Geno Smith, who didn’t have many reliable targets last year as a rookie. When the #18 pick rolled around and the Jets were on the clock, Amaro was on my short list of players I wanted to see have his name called (as I tweeted). As we know, that didn’t happen, and while I loved the Calvin Pryor selection, I was a little bit bummed that we may have missed out on the next Jimmy Graham or Gronk. Mike Donnelly of TurnOnTheJets breaks down the New York Jets lineup changes on defense heading into 2014.
It’s no secret that the New York Jets defense has been the backbone of the team since the day Rex Ryan arrived. In 2013, the unit was able to rebuild on the fly as they had seven new starters, including two rookies, and still managed to field a very good defense. The stats are somewhat skewed thanks to an offense that constantly turned the ball over and put them in bad situations, but they still finished 11th overall with 334.9 yards a game. With a more experienced unit heading into 2014, how are they shaping up compared to last year’s squad? Let’s take a look. Continue reading “Grading the New York Jets 2014 Lineup Changes (Defense)”
