New York Jets Fans – Give Us The Next Guy!

Joe Caporoso on New York Jets fans enduring love for 3rd and 4th string quarterbacks

If you want to be a popular quarterback with New York Jets fans, your best best is to slide as far down the depth chart as possible. TOJ – “What If”, Episode 2: New York Jets Don’t Draft Vernon Gholston

TOJ Staff Writer Dalbin Osorio asks “What If” the New York Jets don’t draft Vernon Gholston in Episode 2 of this TOJ Series

There were many questionable draft choices made by now former New York Jets General Manager Mike Tannenbaum, but none more so than former Ohio State Buckeye Vernon Gholston. The 2007 Big Ten Defensive Lineman of the Year, Gholston was one of two players to record a sack against his draft’s top pick, left tackle Jake Long, in his entire college career. Gholston was drafted in 2008 sixth overall, and was expected to be the Jets primary pass rusher out of the 3-4 outside linebacker position. We all know what happened next: Gholston did not record a single sack during his time with the Jets, and was released after the 2011 season. From the time Gholston was drafted to the time he was released by the team, 606 players recorded at least one sack. What if the Jets never drafted Gholston?

Since our last roster prediction prior to training camp, plenty has changed around the New York Jets roster. Players have exceeded expectations. Players have disappeared. Players have been signed, hyped up an excessive amount and then released (hey, Braylon Edwards). With the final pre-season game only two days away, here is how I see the final 53 man roster shaking out, bearing in mind a few free agents could still be brought in prior to the season kicking off.
