Joe Caporoso with initial reaction to the New York Jets trading up to take South Carolina offensive lineman Brandon Shell in the 5th round
The New York Jets made a surprising move by trading a 2017 4th round pick to move up into the 5th round for South Carolina offensive lineman Brandon Shell. It is worth remembering the Jets are likely to receive 3-4 compensatory picks next season, giving them a little more flexibility to move picks from 2017. Shell should help address an aging and thin offensive line.

Joe Caporoso on the New York Jets taking CB Juston Burris in the 4th round with the 118th overall pick
The New York Jets used the 118th overall pick in the 4th round of the 2016 NFL Draft on cornerback Juston Burris from NC State. This pick is not surprising considering the Jets desire to build their own homegrown talent at corner, a critical position in Todd Bowles’ defense and the lack of this regime’s long term faith in Dee Milliner and Dexter McDougle. Burris’ skill set is a logical fit and his scouting report will sound familiar to many about the types of corners Bowles likes on the outside…

Joe Caporoso with initial reaction to the New York Jets 3rd round pick of Georgia outside linebacker Jordan Jenkins
The New York Jets used their 3rd round draft pick and 83rd overall overall selection on Georgia outside linebacker Jordan Jenkins. I mocked Jenkins to the Jets here with short commentary on the logic behind taking him. Here is a closer look at the newest member of the team…

Joe Caporoso with initial reaction to the New York Jets first round selection of Ohio State linebacker Darron Lee
The New York Jets continued their run on defensive players in the first round by selecting Ohio State linebacker Darron Lee with the 20th overall pick. Our initial scouting report on Lee is right here. This was a fairly common mocked pick to the Jets considering Lee’s skill set and how it would in Todd Bowles’ defense. We know the Jets wanted speed and versatility, particularly at linebacker. Lee addresses that while providing strong value at the 20th overall spot.

Joe Caporoso with initial reaction to the New York Jets season ending 26-20 loss to the Buffalo Bills
The New York Jets season ended in excruciating fashion today with a 22-17 loss to the Buffalo Bills, which knocked them out of the AFC Playoffs despite a 10-6 record. The Jets couldn’t overcome a sluggish start thanks to three second half interceptions from Ryan Fitzpatrick and porous third down defense. Today was a team wide failure. All three phases and the coaching staff laid an egg, as many coaches and players who have put together very good to great seasons picked an awful time to have a bad day at the office.

Joe Caporoso with initial reaction to the New York Jets 26-20 overtime victory against the New England Patriots, which put them in position to make the AFC Playoffs with a week 17 win
The New York Jets won in thrilling fashion today in overtime against the New England Patriots, 26-20 in an electric, playoff like atmosphere at MetLife Stadium. Despite losing a two touchdown second half lead, the Jets rallied to take advantage of a rare, foolish coaching decision by Bill Belichick, who decided to kick off in overtime after winning the toss. The Jets promptly went 80 yards for the game winning score on six plays, capped by Eric Decker cooking Malcolm Butler on a slot fade route for the win. Thanks to an unexpected Baltimore Ravens win over the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Jets now control their playoff destiny heading into week 17.

Joe Caporoso with initial reaction to the New York Jets 19-16 win over the Dallas Cowboys, their 4th straight win
It wasn’t easy and it wasn’t always enjoyable but the New York Jets handled their business against the Dallas Cowboys for their fourth straight win, by escaping Jerry World with a 19-16 victory. This was a game filled with injuries, missed kicks, drops and whiffed tackles but the Jets found a way to overcome and string together a comeback in the game’s final quarter. Depending on how today breaks, the Jets could be in control of their playoff destiny starting a week from today at MetLife Stadium against the Patriots…

Joe Caporoso with initial reaction to the New York Jets 30-8 victory over the Oakland Raiders
The New York Jets thoroughly dominated the inferior Tennessee Titans today, 30-8 to move their record to 8-5 (doubling their 2014 win total with three games still to play). There was never any doubt as to the outcome of this one, as the Jets were in control from their opening drive through an entire second half of garbage time. They still have their work cut out for them to make the playoffs but they seem to be surging at the right time with a three game winning streak…
