Edward Gorelik with context stats for Ryan Fitzpatrick and Geno Smith vs. the Baltimore Ravens
Statistics let us remove emotional stimuli and focus on the hard truth of what happens. But we need to place statistics into their environment to gain context and understand what’s really happening. Geno Smith having 60% accuracy doesn’t tell you any information, but 60% accuracy throwing against man coverage gives you something to work with. That’s the purpose of this season-long project.

Edward Gorelik breaks down the performance of the New York Jets quarterbacks against Washington…
The Washington game gave us a lot of information to unpack about the quarterbacks. A productive performance from Bryce Petty may have opened a competition between him and Geno Smith for the backup job. However, we’ve seen this story before with QBs like Matt Simms who beat up inferior competition. So how do we know if this is any different? The game will have the answers, as we go through each QB’s performance against the Redskins… Continue reading “New York Jets vs Washington: QB Report”
Edward Gorelik breaks down the performance of the Jets QBs in their preseason opener
The pre-season for the QBs is nearly cut and dry with Fitzpatrick being the expected starter and Geno being the backup. However, there’s still a potential for a battle between Petty and Geno for the second spot, as well as whether either player is on the roster at all come week 1. Throughout the pre-season, i’ll be looking at all four QBs to see where they’re all at.

Edward Gorelik breaks down Geno Smith’s 2014 season with context stats
We all knew it would come to this point. There’s no way to create an article about Ryan Fitzpatrick’s stats in context without also making one for Geno Smith. Well, now everyone’s getting their wish. It’s important to look at players within the context of their situation to separate their issues and strengths from their teams. While stats never tell the full story, adding a numerical value lets us remove the emotional highs and lows to fully process what occurred. It also allows us to quantify events in order to battle narratives and myths…

There is a narrative of incompetence that surrounds the New York Jets, particularly at the quarterback position. Even good Jets teams in the past have had a history of average quarterback play. Now that the Jets are actually coming off one of their best passing seasons in the last twenty years, the possibility of Fitzpatrick not returning has a “here we go again” feel to it…

Mike Donnelly breaks down Gary Myers’s most recent column in the Daily News about the New York Jets…
As you may or may not know, we are not big fans of the coverage the New York Jets receive from the media in this town. Now, sure, there are some excellent people who cover the team, but there’s just far too much nonsense and garbage floating around out there on a daily basis. To really hammer that point home, I took a Gary Myers column from last August about how Michael Vick should start and basically picked it apart line by line, in the old “Fire Joe Morgan” fashion. (Here is the link to that article: NYDN Sadness: Gary Myers Edition).
Anyway, a year later, and Gary is still up to his same old awful, awful tricks. Today, he wrote something about Geno Smith and… well, I’m not even really sure what the point of the whole thing was. It was basically a mess, in standard Gary Myers fashion. So let’s dust off the keyboard here and give the worst offender in the New York media the same treatment as last time.
