New York Jets – An Off-Season Of Overreactions And Bad Jokes

The New York Jets rumor mill is producing nothing but overreactions and bad jokes with no long term perspective in mind

Gregg Rosenthal of NFL.com appropriately called making fun of the New York Jets our “fifth national sport” this morning on Twitter. At this point, it doesn’t matter what rumor the team is associated with or how flimsy that information is, the only object of every beat writer and major NFL writer is to sprint to the keyboard and fire off a snarky Tweet preceded by “LOLZJETS…AMIRITE?” Context isn’t important, looking at the broader picture isn’t important and certainly common sense isn’t important.

New York Jets – 49ers Collecting Revis Bait?

Is it only a matter of time before Darrelle Revis is traded to the San Francisco 49ers by the New York Jets?

The San Francisco 49ers traded quarterback Alex Smith to the ever-foolish Kansas City Chiefs for a 2013 second round pick and a 2014 conditional mid-round pick today, leaving them with an expected 15…yes 15 draft picks this April. Five of those picks are in the top 100 – 31st, 34th, 61st, 74th and 93rd overall. Darrelle Revis-Bait? It sure sounds like it.

2013 NFL Combine: Day 4 Recap

Frank Giasone recaps day 4 of the NFL Scouting Combine. Who should New York Jets fans keep their eyes on?

After a hectic four days at Lucas Oil Stadium, the 2013 NFL Combine culminated on Tuesday with the defensive backs getting on the field for a chance to showcase their athletic ability to on looking NFL teams. Just like every other day at the combine, a few prospective pro’s took advantage of the opportunity by dominating the day of drills, while others did just the opposite and are left waiting for another chance at their pro day.

It’s very easy to get caught up in the hype of the combine. After all, watching a group of elite athletes run 4.3 40’s and bench 225 lbs. two-dozed times with ease is pretty darn impressive. But it’s important to remember that while the results of these workouts are helpful when grading prospects, the combine is just another very small piece of an extraordinarily complicated puzzle.

The New York Jets and their fanbase need to embrace the needed rebuilding process that will occur during the 2013 season

The New York Jets current level of roster talent and salary cap situation makes rebuilding an inevitable necessity. Rebuilding is the type of word people don’t hesitate to throw around when they are watching their team get Butt-Fumbled on National Television to their “biggest rivals” but when it comes to the actual practice, teams and fans get squeamish about it. Make no mistake, the New York Jets best approach to building a sustainable long term contender is cleaning house and making roster decisions with an eye towards 2014 and beyond, not 2013.

2013 NFL Combine: Day 3 Recap

As the 2013 NFL Combine concludes at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis today, what have we learned so far? The quarterbacks, running backs, offensive lineman, and tight ends were impressive over the weekend. Many displayed impressive talents and skills, while some underwhelmed. Overall, it was a successful weekend for a good amount of prospects.

On Monday, we finally got to see some of the more physically gifted prospects test, the defensive line and linebacker groups. Some prospects greatly boosted their stocks. Others hurt themselves. Some leveled off and tested as many had expected. So who were the biggest winners and losers from Monday’s testing? Let’s take a look.

Film Room – Lifting The Lid On The Real Marty Mornhinweg

Steve Bateman goes into the film room to take a closer look at Marty Mornhingweg’s offense

What do we know about newly appointed New York Jets offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg? Well, he’s going to bring the West Coast Offense eastwards to New York, we know that much for certain, right? And he also favors a zone-blocking run scheme – we know that much because everybody says he does and therefore it must be correct, yeah?

By making these assumptions, not only are we unwittingly limiting our understanding of what Mornhinweg brings to the table, but we are also underestimating his ability to adapt, change, and design entirely new offensive systems according to need. We are also deluding ourselves into believing that Mark Sanchez (or whoever the starting quarterback might be) will be asked to operate a traditional West Coast Offense in 2013.
