Joe Caporoso with a film room breakdown of the New York Jets defense this preseason through two weeks
Despite an ugly first two games on offense, the New York Jets have shown encouraging signs on the defensive side of the football. Through two weeks, they have only allowed 19 points and one touchdown, while also recording 11 sacks and 3 turnovers. Considering this is a young unit with new starters all over the place outside of the defensive line, there is legitimate reason for optimism thus far. Let’s take a closer look at the tape…

Joe Caporoso breaks down the film on Christian Hackenberg against the Detroit Lions…
Christian Hackenberg had a somewhat encouraging preseason debut against the Tennessee Titans, earning him the opportunity to make his first career start agains the Detroit Lions this past week. The results were…not pretty. Shield your eyes and let’s dive into these statistics and tape:
Michael McLaughlin on former New York Jets who are still counting against the team’s salary cap…
What do Darrelle Revis, Ryan Fitzpatrick and Eric Decker all have in common? They’re three of the nine former Jets who are still counting against the team’s salary cap.
In economic terms, the Jets have lots of sunk costs — a cost that has already been incurred and cannot be recovered. In football terms, that is dead money. Only the Ravens have more counting against their 2017 salary cap than New York ($17.6 million).
That generally means an organization has handed out several contracts that were either too long, too expensive, or both.
Below is review of the players who are counting as dead money against the Jets cap and where they stand with their current teams. Revis is the only one of such players who is not currently on an NFL roster. Note that this does not include players such as David Harris, who does not count as dead money according to overthecap.com.
Joe Malfa grades out the New York Jets Offensive Line against the Detroit Lions
There are currently eight offensive linemen on the Jets’ roster in contention for starting roles. Joe Malfa graded their performances through two preseason games and evaluated the three job competitions.
Ben Blessington with an initial reaction to the New York Jets 16-6 loss to the Detroit Lions
The New York Jets traveled to Detroit this week to play their second preseason game of the year, the result-much like the city-wasn’t pretty. Here’s a knee jerk reaction to Hackenberg, Petty, and everything in between.
Kyle Fahey with a stock up, stock down report on the New York Jets after their second preseason game
The Jets traveled to Ford Field to square off against the Detroit Lions in week two of the Preseason. The Jets lacked the desired offense and lost the game 16-6 after a failed second half comeback attempt with Bryce Petty at the helm.
In a bit of a shock, the Jets trotted out second year project QB, Christian Hackenberg to start the game against the Lions. This confirmed two things for the Jets, the first being that Josh McCown will be the week one starter for Gang Green. And the second being the 12th overall selection..which has already been announced as Defensive Tackle, Christian Wilkins from THE Clemson University. LET’S GO AVERAGE BABY! While all that happened… some players looked good, others looked bad. It was basically an Amy Schumer comedy special out there.
Dalbin Osorio with a TOJ Pick Six preview of Jets vs Lions
We are back with this week’s Pick Six; seeing as how Ryan Fitzpatrick continued his tradition of attempting to throw one of these a game despite being in another uniform, it seemed apropos to bring this one back as we preview the New York Jets versus the Detroit Lions. Let’s go passengers!
