New York Jets Great Expectations – Muhammad WIlkerson

New York Jets DE Muhammad Wilkerson is already a great player. How much better can he get? Cole Patterson examines.

When talking about great expectations, I do not refer to the Charles Dickens classic, but to the confidence with which one can look foward to the career of Jets’ defensive lineman Muhammad Wilkerson.

Raise your hand if you purchased a Muhammad Wilkerson jersey following the 2012 season. If you raised your hand, go ahead and pat yourself on the back. You, and thousands of other Jets fans, witnessed greatness in the making and saw the good investment that a number 96 jersey would make. The Safety Conundrum of the New York Jets

Cole Patterson examines free agent options the New York Jets could consider at safety

Jets fans, you have been duped! Bamboozled! The wool has been pulled over your eyes! The all-world performance by a deep group of cornerbacks has been the light that blinded you to the truth. The truth is that the New York Jets have been managing with mediocre to poor safety play ever since 2010. Okay, maybe the issue has been more obvious than that. Most of you are keenly aware of the void at safety. As has been previously addressed, new General Manager John Idzik has deftly addressed many positions of weakness on the roster through added talent and competition. Yet, safety is one of the spots Idzik has avoided so far.

The NFL and Game of Thrones: A Song of Green and White

Cole Patterson finds parallels between the NFL and Game of Thrones

The art of story telling is one of the greatest aspects of humanity. Some have the uncanny ability to spin intricate tales that absorb the audience and create catharsis. George R.R. Martin is one such rare individual. His Song of Ice and Fire series has enchanted millions. HBO’s adaptation of the series, Game of Thrones, brought Martin’s visions to life and inspired a massive cult following. The popular show has turned many of us into drooling, nerd-slaves to Martin and HBO’s genius.

What on earth does this have to do with football you may ask? Little and less. Yet, the NFL and its dramatic matchups, ever evolving rivalries, and team defections create a literary piece all its own. The inner workings of the NFL can be told as a story; complete with plot twists and cliffhangers, antagonists and protagonists. With that in mind we would like to unite the oft overlapping fan bases of the NFL and G of T by drawing parallels between the National Football League and the world of Westeros.

New York Jets – Demario Davis Has “It”

Cole Patterson on New York Jets linebacker Demario Davis, who head coach Rex Ryan believes has “it”

Demario Davis’ career as a New York Jet began with a staggering comparison and 36 tackles. When the Jets called his name with pick number 77 in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft, Jet fans were left wondering who the linebacker was. This reaction was justified as Davis had not been linked to the Jets and had a fifth round or lower grade from most “draft experts”.

The Tight End Conundrum of the New York Jets

Cole Patterson on the New York Jets issues at tight end and what free agent options are still out there

Ahhhh the rebuilding year. Another failed campaign means an eager fan base calling for heads and demanding a quick and timely rebuild. There are many pillars to a successful rebuild: management, coaching, and the all important on field talent (to name a few). It is the talent that most fans tend to harp on and at no position on the New York Jets’ roster is there less of it than at tight end. New general manager John Idzik has deftly filled many perceived holes on the roster including: quarterback, running back, and offensive line. He’s brought in depth players at linebacker and fostered competition with talented defenders early in the draft. However, tight end is one of the spots that he seems to have neglected.
