Week 7 of the NFL season has arrived and that can only mean one thing around these parts – more losing picks provided by yours truly! But fear not, loyal readers, I’ve made some changes to my strategy this week and I can feel a big week coming. I’ve picked a few games that I feel strongly about myself and for the rest that I have no feel on, I’ve resorted to finding the opinions of some of the NFL pundits whose thoughts I value the least (like Mike Florio, for example) and went against them. That means it’s winning time! Let’s get to it… Continue reading “TOJ: Week 7 NFL Gambling Advice”
It’s Patriots week! Sure, the New York Jets are coming off a terrible performance just a week ago at home against Pittsburgh to drop them to 3-3, but all Jets fans should be excited for Patriots week. Sure, all the stats and trends point towards the Pats blowing the Jets out, as they always seem to do in the second matchup of the season (last year involved the infamous “buttfumble” on Thanksgiving), but there is reason for hope this week, as the extremely banged up Patriots roll into the Meadowlands. A Jets win would bring them to within one game of the division lead, and the playoffs would start to look like a legit possibility. Let’s get to buying and selling all things Jets as we look forward to Sunday… Continue reading “TOJ Stock Watch: Patriots Week”
Can you believe it’s already Week 6 of the NFL season? Man oh man, it sure is flying by. We haven’t quite gotten off to the start I was looking for here through five weeks, but before you know it you’ll look up and say “Wow it’s already week 12?!” and you’ll check my record here to see things have turned around in a big way…. Ok, maybe not, but I’m gonna give it my best shot anyway. It’s the point in the season where you can start to get a read on some teams, so hopefully that helps going forward. Let’s get rolling. TOJ Buying and selling all things New York Jets as they get ready to face the Pittsburgh Steelers
As we all know by now, the Jets sit at 3-2 after five weeks and are hosting the Pittsburgh Steelers this week in what is shaping up as a huge game. The Steelers may be winless, but they’re coming off a bye and are still a scary foe. If the Jets win, they could be playing the Patriots the following week with first place in the division on the line, which is still a little bit surreal to even think about. But let’s not look past the Steelers in what should definitely be a tight game and a great test for Geno Smith and his Jets. Let’s go ahead and do some buying and selling… Continue reading “TOJ Stock Watch: New York Jets vs. Steelers Edition”
Coming into the 2013 season, a popular narrative around the football world was that Rex Ryan was on the hot seat and would be gone in 2014. Hell, many people thought he would be the first coach fired during the season. Some incredibly even called for him to be fired during the PRE-season! According to all these experts, the writing was on the wall: There was a new GM in town who couldn’t possibly want Rex to stay around, and the embattled coach was saddled with a terrible team that had no chance to win enough games for him to keep his job. We heard it all. “Circus… Buffoon… Dead Man Walking…” Well not only did Rex show that he shouldn’t be fired, he’s shown that the Jets should go ahead and give him a contract extension. Not after the season; Now. Continue reading “TOJ: Hey Idzik, Extend Rex Now”
Mike Donnelly breaks down this week’s gambling lines and gives fantasy football advice for week 5.
At this point I feel like I can just copy and paste the intro paragraph from last week’s column when it comes to my weekly picks. “Well, last week didn’t quite go the way I had hoped, but this week I feel like it’s about to turn around!” This week, however, I actually do feel real good about my best bets, so at least there’s that. And while the picks were umm, not the best shall we say last week, my fantasy takes were actually pretty spot on.
This week I’m going to give you one player in each game that should outperform expectations and that I’d recommend you start, especially if you are having bye week problems. It should go without saying, but I’m not going to tell you to start your stud players. I’m looking at mid-range kind of guys here. I’d say “sleepers” but there’s no such thing in fantasy these days. Let’s get started.. Continue reading “TOJ Week 5 – Point Spreads, Picks, and Fantasy Football”
It’s Friday and we’ve all had almost a full week to soak in and analyze that disaster of a game last week in Tennessee. This week our boys in green are traveling down to Atlanta for a primetime game against the Falcons in a game in which they’re double digit underdogs. Yikes. Let’s get to buying and selling and seeing what we can look forward to on Monday night Continue reading “TOJ Stock Watch – Week 5 Edition”
Turn On The Jets Week 4 NFL Gambling and Fantasy Football Outlook
Well, it’s Week 4 and things haven’t quite gone as planned so far here with my weekly picks. The visions I had dancing in my head of starting the season on fire and having all our readers begging for my picks haven’t quite materialized… yet! Ok, ok, that’s probably never going to happen, and you may be better off fading me at this point, but I feel it all turning around this week! There’s plenty of room left here on the bandwagon (current occupancy: 1).
And to shake things up this week, I’m not gonna just give my reasons for why each team will cover. Instead, I’m gonna also break things down by giving my fantasy football takes on each game and which players you should be thinking about starting or sitting when Sunday afternoon rolls around. You’re welcome.
Buying and Selling all things New York Jets as they head into Week 4 against the Tennessee Titans
Week 4 is upon us and the Jets sit at 0-3 with Rex Ryan on the hot seat. As expected, the circus remains in Florham Park and things couldn’t look worse for Gang Green…. Wait, no, that isn’t right at all. That is what the media wanted to be writing this point in the season, but instead they’ve all been served a turd sandwich as Rex Ryan and his Jets currently sit at 2-1 and were a play or two away from turning that L into a W up in Foxboro. This week our boys in green travel to Tennessee to take on another surprise 2-1 team in what is sure to be a close — and winnable — game. Let’s do some stock watching! Continue reading “TOJ Stock Watch: New York Jets Week 4 Edition”
Mike Donnelly with Week 3 gambling advice on all of the NFL action.
After going 8-8 last week on the heels of Week 1’s mini disaster, things are starting to look up for me as we head into Week 3. This is the time of the season when you start to get a feel for teams but unfortunately so do the Las Vegas bookmakers and the lines become increasingly difficult. Let’s see if we can go ahead and beat them this week and make a few bucks… you know, if gambling were legal and all. Continue reading “TOJ – Week 3 NFL Gambling Advice”
