Hey now! Joe Douglas grabs a steal in the fifth round to help bolster the Jets CB depth. Judging by the reaction of not only Jets Twitter but also scouts, the Jets nailed this pick.
The Jets needed cornerback depth in the worst way. After opting for the Swiss army knife Davis earlier in the draft, Joe Douglas pulled the trigger on the Virginia corner in the 5th. Hall would have gone a lot earlier in this draft but his medicals caused him to drop and Douglas did the right thing in taking him.
Hall was a team captain at Virginia, which seems to peak Douglas’ interest. For all of the talk about “culture change” (yuck), getting captains and proven team leaders to add to your team can help push you into the real reason for culture change: winning football games.
The main consensus around Hall was that he would very quickly become a starter in the NFL, if injuries didn’t hinder him. A physical corner with average quickness and agility skills, Hall excels with his ball skills. Gregg Williams will love having a guy like that.
Early on it looks like he’ll need some help over the top (Jets have plenty of that) but I wouldn’t be surprised if he becomes a starter sooner rather than later. Great football pedigree and an even better human, the Jets got an absolute steal with this pick.
