The New York Jets selected punter Braden Mann from Texas A&M with the 191st pick of the 2020 NFL Draft. The Jets finished off day three by adding a new starting punter on special teams. Mann replaces Lachlan Edwards who punted for the Jets the last four seasons.
Braden Mann was one of the best punters in the nation in his time at Texas A&M. He won the 2018 Ray Guy award for the nation’s top collegiate punter and was an All-American his past two seasons with the Aggies (1st team in 2018, 2nd team in 2019). Mann averaged 47.1 yards per punt which was in the top 5 nationally last season. He also placed 46% of his punts inside the 20.

Mann comes as the clear first choice punter for the Jets and likely also handling kickoffs. The Jets punted the most out of any team in the NFL last season so they’ll appreciate having a punter who can flip the field on a more consistent basis than they’ve seen in the past. Mann’s strong leg will support a defense that’s beginning to look somewhat formidable by limiting short field opportunities for opposing offenses.
