My week thirteen picks went 2-3 against the spread, as I continue to lose money this season. It was nice to see Mark Sanchez play football again, but it’s not as fun when you bet on the team he is playing quarterback for. Before I give my picks for week fourteen, here’s my take on the current state of the New York Jets:
- With the latest reports of friction between Bowles and Maccagnan, this Jets team is becoming more of a circus every week. I don’t think anything is set in stone yet, but the fact that ownership will potentially keep this GM to hire his own head coach just proves why this team is dysfunctional. As much as I want to see Sam Darnold prosper, I think the Jets are better off losing out the rest of this season and completely cleaning house.
Tampa Bay +9.5 vs. New Orleans
I’ll happily take Tampa and the points, who are playing a division rival at home. I love the Saints, but I think they’re getting way too much respect here. The Bucs’ offense has been underrated all season, and I expect them to score enough in this game to cover.
Saints win outright, but the Buccaneers cover the big spread, 33-27.
Cleveland +1 vs. Carolina
The Panthers are trending in the wrong direction. They’ve now lost four games in a row and are 1-5 on the road this season. Even though Carolina is still in contention, I think the Browns will have more motivation here after their loss in Houston.
Browns win 24-18.
Baltimore +6.5 at Kansas City
I’m officially on the Lamar Jackson bandwagon. I’ve always liked the player, but thought he’d struggle in his first few games as a starter. Instead, he’s been electric and a much needed spark for the Ravens offense.
Baltimore is still alive to win the AFC North, so even if they don’t win this game, I think they play well enough to cover the 6.5 points.
I’ll take the Chiefs to win close, but the Ravens cover, 27-24.
Dallas -3.5 vs. Philadelphia
I watched the Eagles / Redskins game last week, and despite their win, I was not impressed with Philadelphia. That offense has no running game and Carson Wentz still does not look like the player he was last season. I love the Cowboys defense, especially at home where they have been great all season.
Cowboys win 26-20.
Chicago +3 vs. LA Rams
The return of Mitchell Trubisky actually makes this an easy pick for me. Chicago is coming off a tough loss against the Giants and are home for their biggest game of the season. It should be a cold, windy night in Chicago, and I think the Bears’ defense plays lights out.
As good as the Rams have been this year, they do not cover the spread as often as you’d think, and this feels like a spot where they struggle.
Give me the Bears to upset and win, 23-21.
Week Thirteen Record: 2-3
Season Record: 31-34
