TOJ Tweet Summary 2018, Week 1 – Jets vs. Lions

Daniel Essien recaps the Jets week 1 matchup with the Detroit Lions with #JetsTwitter

We back, baby! Tweet summary is back for 2018. As usual, we’ll take you through the best (and sometimes ugliest) of #JetsTwitter each gameday. Because Jets fans really are the strangest and best collections of fans on earth.

After a long and adventurous offseason, the New York Jets finally got to the start of the regular season. With their new promising rookie quarterback, Sam Darnold, and their reinforced defense, the Jets rode out to Detroit for their week 1 primetime matchup against the Lions. Of course, there were things to be concerned about. But, this year, for once, there was a little more reason for optimism. Here’s how things played out on #JetsTwitter.

Jets fans were pumped to see Sam Darnold take the field for the first time. It was hard to wait until primetime.

1st Half

The Jets got the ball to start the game, meaning it was “enter Sam Darnold” right from the jump.

Jets wasted no time. His first NFL snap was a pass attempt! And well…uh…yeah…

After Diggs’ pick six, some thought they’d pile on…

Whewww boy…you hate to see it…

It’s the Bills. It’s always been the Bills.

Lots of slander in the first 1 minute of the game, huh???

After Darnold’s pick, the Jets got the ball back and went on a 6 minute drive. But after a Ziggy Ansah sack they were out of field goal range and had to punt. The Jets defense then held the Lions to a three and out. After that, Andre Roberts got things going.

After the great return by Roberts, the Jets offense executed with the great field position. Darnold showed off his ability to throw on the run and the Jets capped off a quick 32 yard drive with a 6 yard touchdown run by Isaiah Crowell to tie the game at 7-7.

On the ensuing Lions drive, the Jets defense started to take it up a bit. On 3rd and 10, Mo Claiborne made an appearance.

Jets moved the ball a bit on the following drive but the drive stalled after a big loss on a sack. They settled for a field goal to make it 10-7.
The next Lions possession, the Jets defense bent a bit as the Lions made a little bit of progress down the field. But then this bizarre play happened…

But thankfully…

After both teams traded punts. The Jets got the ball back and after many fans were starting to beg for Robby Anderson to get targets…

Biiiiig mood

On the next Lions drive, almost every player in the Jets secondary got hurt. The Lions drove down the field but the Jets somehow kept them out of the endzone and they settled for a field goal to make it 17-10.

2nd Half

The Lions got the ball to start the second half and they hit the gas. They went 4 plays, 75 yards in less than two minutes. To cap it, Stafford hit Tate for a TD to tie it up at 17-17.

But the Jets answered right back, on a brilliant drive by Sam Darnold and the offense which ended with a touchdown pass to Quincy Enunwa.

After that…whewww….IT GOT WIIIIIILD

Then after the Jets defense forced another punt…

Then literally a few minutes later…

The Jets then added a field goal to make it 41-17. Afterwards, the Lions drove a bit but then a missed a field goal. Then, while the Jets tried to run some clock…

Then later on, to put the icing on the cake, Jamal Adams finally got one.

Pure, raw, caps-locked emotion.

Jets cruised to a 48-17 win and Jets fans celebrated as good a gift as this team has given them in quite a few years.

I really hope so.

Meanwhile in Lions fan land…

Plenty to be happy about for Jets fans. Let’s see if the Jets keep the party going at home against the Dolphins.

Also, I’m not saying you should pull receipts for those Darnold slanderers I pointed out individually earlier but I’m also not saying you shouldn’t do that either…
