Cut Down Weekend – New York Jets Updated 53 Man Roster

A running update on the New York Jets 53 man roster during cut down weekend

Use this link for a running update on the New York Jets 53 man roster, along with analysis. At the bottom suspended players are listed, along with the practice squad and short term IR designations :

Quarterback

  • Sam Darnold
  • Josh McCown

HOORAY TO ONLY CARRYING 2 QUARTERBACKS!

Running Back

  • Isaiah Crowell
  • Bilal Powell
  • Trenton Cannon
  • Elijah McGuire
  • Lawrence Thomas

Dmitri Flowers had a whisper quiet summer and was among the team’s first cuts.

Tight End

  • Eric Tomlinson
  • Neal Sterling
  • Chris Herndon
  • Jordan Leggett

The Jets decided to cut Clive Walford, who was their second best TE all summer and is only 26 years old.

Wide Receiver

  • Robby Anderson
  • Quincy Enunwa
  • Jermaine Kearse
  • Terrelle Pryor
  • Charone Peake
  • Andre Roberts

Johnson was the first to go in an unsurprising move. It sounds like Kearse may miss week 1 now, which could impact the number of receivers the Jets keep. 2017 4th round pick Chad Hansen was also cut and Tre McBride, one of the surprises of training camp.

Offensive Tackle

  • Kelvin Beachum
  • Brandon Shell
  • Brent Qvale
  • Ben Braden

Garcia was brought on as a flier at tackle after his short stint with Patriots ended because of blood clots and health scares. Even with as bad as the Jets offensive line has been this preseason, he did nothing of note to warrant keeping him on the 53.

Offensive Center/Guard

  • Spencer Long
  • James Carpenter
  • Brian Winters
  • Dakota Dozier
  • Jonotthan Harrison

Defensive Line

  • Leonard Williams
  • Steve McLendon
  • Nathan Shepherd
  • Henry Anderson
  • Mike Pennel
  • Folorunso Fatukasi

Cooper was the first to go in a mild surprise. The decision to draft two defensive linemen in the 2018 NFL Draft didn’t bode well for his chances, as Fatukasi is basically guaranteed to stay now.

Reyes was a long shot to make the roster especially with Shepherd and Fatukasi being just drafted. Deon Simon was officially cut, meaning nobody remains from the Jets 2015 class except for Leonard Williams.

Inside Linebacker

  • Darron Lee
  • Avery Williamson
  • Neville Hewitt

Minter is another surprise cut of the day. It felt like it was between him, Hewitt and Pierre-Louis for that third down backer role. They released Anthony Wint who could make the practice squad, also means they’re going with one backup in week 1.

Outside Linebacker

  • Jordan Jenkins
  • Josh Martin
  • Brandon Copeland

Gwacham is a freaky athlete who the Jets were hoping could provide some sort of spark off the edge. Add him to the list of Jets pass rushers who couldn’t generate much or any pressure.

Bass led Jets edge rushers with 3.5 sacks last season. That’s it. In a surprising move, the Jets cut UDFA rookie Frankie Luvu who had flashed this preseason. Lorenzo Mauldin has been a clear gone for a few weeks now.

Cornerback

  • Trumaine Johnson
  • Morris Claiborne
  • Buster Skrine
  • Derrick Jones
  • Parry Nickerson
  • Daryl Roberts
  • Juston Burris

With the emergence of Jones and Robinson, Sinkfield was going to have to have a monstrous preseason and camp to make this roster as a corner.

Safety

  • Jamal Adams
  • Marcus Maye
  • Terrence Brooks
  • Doug Middleton
  • JJ Wilcox

Specialists

  • Jason Myers
  • Lachlan Edwards
  • Thomas Hennessy

They just announced they released Bertolet. Myers has won the job as of now but look for them to possibly bring in someone else after cuts.

Suspended

  • ArDarius Stewart
  • Rashard Robinson
  • Kevin Pierre-Louis

Short Term IR/PUP

  • Rontez Miles

Practice Squad

  • Brandon Bryant
