Turn On The Jets 2018 NFL Off-Season Preview Buffet

Joe Caporoso with a 2018 NFL Offseason Preview in this week’s Buffet, courtesy of Razer Sport! Key offseason dates, a mock draft, what to watch/read now and more…

Every Wednesday or Thursday during the NFL season (and offseason), Joe Caporoso will break down the upcoming week of NFL action. Unfasten the belts and prepare to gorge on another weekend of fandom, fantasy, gambling, tweeting, cheering, complaining…and complaining.

The Buffet is brought to you by Razer Sport (www.RazerSport.com) – The world’s most respected sports betting consultants and handicappers, who are producing winners every single week. Key Dates To Know

February 20th – First day players can get the franchise or transition tag. This is a good list of players who could receive either of the tags. If you are a Jets fan, pass rusher DeMarcus Lawrence is likely to come off the board and you are hoping Washington doesn’t do something insane like still hit Kirk Cousins with a franchise tag. Quarterback Case Keenum could also receive the transition tag.

February 27th – March 5th – NFL Scouting Combine. So. Many. Takes. In reality, nobody should be moving up or down the board all that much from these days but they will.

March 12th – Negotiating “officially” begins on free agents. The action will probably start earlier than this. Be wary of fake accounts on Twitter but real deals will start coming together. For Jets fans, all eyes will be on every move Kirk Cousins makes. WHY DID HE FAVORITE THAT VON MILLER TWEET?!?

March 14th – The league year starts. Contracts become “officially official.” SPEND, BABY SPEND!

April 26th – April 28th – NFL Draft. A three day holiday of takes, tweets and frantically looking up day three players you have never heard of before.

Overrated Snack of the Week

I honestly may have mentioned Bugles in a previous installment but I won’t risk it and I’ll mention them again (too many weeks, too many snacks). Bugles are bland, average tasting cones that are not conducive to being dipped in condiments. I don’t know or understand the logic behind selecting a bag of Bugles over getting a solid chip or pretzel.

What Do I Watch Now?

Waco, Paramout Network – Timmy Riggins! Episode 4 of 6 is airing tonight and the first three were well acted, high energy installments on the story of cult leader David Koresh and his standoff with the FBI/ATF. I didn’t even know Paramount had a network until I saw the ads featuring Kitsch in the lead role and unlike True Detective Season 2 (let’s just pretend that never happened), he absolutely delivers.

I, Tonya – Putting aside the creative liberties taken with the story and recognizing many parts of the movie are exaggerated or untrue, this is an entertaining, unique movie with Allison Janney and Margot Robbey killing it in their respective roles.

Who Do I Read Now?

Dream Team by Jack McCallum – Muhlenberg’s (my alum) very own on the byline! McCallum is one of the best basketball writers of the past few decades and this provides an insightful look at one of the most interesting sports teams ever assembled.

I used the FanSpeak mock draft generator to go through all seven rounds for the New York Jets. I did this under the assumption that they will sign Kirk Cousins (future mock drafts coming under the assumption they do not sign Kirk Cousins). Here is what I came back with:
