Just when you think you have a quiet Sunday night in, Mike Tannenbaum goes and does it again. It is now being reported the Jets have traded for former Pittsburgh Steelers receiver and former Super Bowl MVP Santonio Holmes for a 5th round pick in this year’s draft. Wow. Holmes had 79 catches for 1248 yards and 5 touchdowns last season, and the year before was the Super Bowl MVP when he hauled in the game winning catch to beat the Arizona Cardinals.
There are rumors floating around that Holmes could be facing a 4 game suspension under the league’s substance abuse policy this year but regardless the Jets only gave up a 5th round pick for him…let that sink in, a 5th round pick. This is an absolute steal. Holmes is a big play receiver who will be a huge weapon for Mark Sanchez. As of today, the Jets will be lining up Braylon Edwards, Jerricho Cotchery, and Santonio Holmes at receiver, along with Dustin Keller at tight end. Are you kidding me?
This obviously changes the Jets needs in the draft as they will no longer be targeting a receiver in the early rounds. Look for the Jets to be even more defense heavy with their picks now that they have filled their last major need on offense by grabbing a potential #1 receiver to fill their #3 spot. Stand up and give Mike Tannenbaum a round of applause, please.
Much more to come…
