Jets Trade For Santonio Holmes: Call The Police, There Has Been A Robbery

Just when you think you have a quiet Sunday night in, Mike Tannenbaum goes and does it again. It is now being reported the Jets have traded for former Pittsburgh Steelers receiver and former Super Bowl MVP Santonio Holmes for a 5th round pick in this year’s draft. Wow. Holmes had 79 catches for 1248 yards and 5 touchdowns last season, and the year before was the Super Bowl MVP when he hauled in the game winning catch to beat the Arizona Cardinals.

There are rumors floating around that Holmes could be facing a 4 game suspension under the league’s substance abuse policy this year but regardless the Jets only gave up a 5th round pick for him…let that sink in, a 5th round pick. This is an absolute steal. Holmes is a big play receiver who will be a huge weapon for Mark Sanchez. As of today, the Jets will be lining up Braylon Edwards, Jerricho Cotchery, and Santonio Holmes at receiver, along with Dustin Keller at tight end. Are you kidding me?

This obviously changes the Jets needs in the draft as they will no longer be targeting a receiver in the early rounds. Look for the Jets to be even more defense heavy with their picks now that they have filled their last major need on offense by grabbing a potential #1 receiver to fill their #3 spot. Stand up and give Mike Tannenbaum a round of applause, please.

Much more to come…

i woke up for work @ 4:30 this morning & saw that I got a text at 11:50 last nite from espn & thought maybe it was another Masters update to go along with the 30 that i got this weekend…when i opened it i was almost as excited as i was the morning i got the news about us acquiring favre (a text that I also opened at around 4:30am)

needless to say, whether he will be suspended or not, this guy is a game-breaking receiver & has only improved in each of his four years in the league…plus he only has one year left on his contract so if it doesnt work out then hes gone

the Jets are definitely in win-now mode & im lovin it

I mean, could they have imagined getting a WR with this kind of talent at 29? Instead they basically get him in the 5th round instead. I don’t care about the suspension…they guy is young still and can be a Jet for years. Now let’s get rid of Stone Hands Edwards…

I think Edwards will be sticking around and him and Holmes will be battling for that #1 receiver money this season, which will hopefully bring out the best in them…and yes it is hard not to love when your team is clearly gearing up for a Super Bowl run, the Jets are all in with these moves and now have a potentially elite offense to match an elite defense
