Ain't It Beautiful: Jets Beat Pats, Initial Reaction

Is it just me or is it all of a sudden alot more fun to be a Jets fan? I just got back from the Meadowlands and I will say the fans game ball from Rex Ryan was well deserved. In my 18 years of going to Jets games, I have never seen a crowd like I saw it today. There was no sitting, just non-stop jumping, cheering, “Brady sucks” chants, “Defense” chants, “Boston Sucks” chants, and all that other good stuff. The fans were on their game today and fortunately so was Rex Ryan, Mark Sanchez, and of course the Jets defense which is yet to allow a touchdown through 2 games.

Sorry Bill…You were out-coached today, the Pats were in control at halftime up 9-3 and you were out-adjusted by Rex Ryan at halftime as the Jets outscored you 13-0 in the second half. Your team was undisciplined, coming up with 11 penalties for 89 yards and not surprisingly you couldn’t even look Rex Ryan in the face and barely shake his hand after the game. You might have traded away one too many players on that defense. which simply isn’t on the same level as the Jets.

Sorry Tom…You look rattled and scared in the pocket, we could smell you crapping your pants from the Jets pass rush all the way up in Section 313. 23/47? I am not math whiz, but isn’t that below 50 percent? Back to back delay of game penalties? I thought Mark Sanchez was the rookie. Zero touchdowns and an interception? Yikes. I don’t know, that Patriots offense doesn’t look like anything too special to me.

How About…That Jets defense, I can’t talk enough about them. Darrelle Revis is the best corner in the NFL right now. Who else shuts down Andre Johnson (who by the way had 149 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns against all-pro corner Cortland Finnegan today) and Randy Moss in back to back weeks? Donald Strickland and Lito Sheppard both played very well and hopefully their injuries aren’t serious even though Dwight Lowery, Eric Smith, and Drew Coleman all stepped up off the bench…Mark Sanchez protecting the football and coming up huge in the second half with two big strikes to Jerricho Cotchery, a beautiful touchdown pass to Dustin Keller, and a huge third down conversion to Chansi Stuckey. The best is that he is only going to get better…The previously mentioned receivers, all stepping up and providing another good game, especially Cotchery who had 87 yards receiving, all in the second half.

Much more to come tomorrow, right now my throat hurts, my legs are killing me, but damn we just held Tom Brady to 0 touchdowns, below 50 percent passing, out-coached Bill Belichick, and cheered the Pats into 4 delay of game penalties.

Enjoy it Jets Nation, you are 2-0, have a defense that hasn’t allowed a touchdown in 2 games, just beat New England, and you may have finally found the right coach and right quarterback. If you weren’t at the game today, find a way to get to a home game this season because that was place was rocking today, and if the Jets keep playing this way it is going to be rocking all season.

Great Game! Tremendous performance by the defense! The learning curve for Sanchez is pretty amazing. After the first half, I reminded my son (watching with me) how much better Sanchez looked after his first few drives against the Ravens and the Giants in pre-season, and sure enough, he looked like a different person, really starting with the scoring drive in the second half. Really, so many people played well, it’s hard to pick an MVP for this game, but I guess you’d have to give it to Revis.

Question-we saw a lot of Harris and Scott and Thomas, and very little of Goulston. Who was the fourth LB, or did the generally play an extra DB?

Also, it should be very interesting to see where ESPN rates the Jets in their power rankings. They started at like #23, moved to #16 after the Texans game, and just beat the Pats (who were like #3.) We really have been the biggest news story in the NFL (with Drew Brees) so far. Pretty heady stuff!

Joe, I’m hoarse from all the screaming, just that it was at my TV. My neighbors thought I was having a heart attack!

I loved everything about this game! My favorite part was that the defense DID NOT LET UP! No more Prevent!

Generally, I think Dierdorff the announcer is just that, a big Dorf – he always finds something snitty to say about the Jets – but he did say one thing which I’ll always agree with – the only thing a Prevent defense does is prevent you from winning.

Rex knows this, he knows you can get away with using a Prevent against the rest-of-the-pack, but when going up against the top teams in this league, you absolutely CANNOT let them get a breather and back into the game.

Seeing 6 & 7 guys still rushing tommy-boy during those last few minutes was amazing, and realizing that EVERYBODY on the field JUST KNEW… from the shocked Patsies to our glorious beasts in green, from the fans and most especially in the Darth Vader’an mind of the enemy across the field… that Rex Ryan has COMPLETE CONFIDENCE IN THIS DEFENSE and – when the GAME is ON THE LINE — just DARES ANYONE to throw the rock up against man coverage.

HUGE HUGE HUGE GUT CHECK – the nellies from the north FAILED, and every single one of our guys, from their Stones to their Bones, passed with FLYING GREEN AND WHITE COLORS!!!!!

Like I said, Joe, I’m so hoarse I can’t hardly speak – good thing I can type.

Been a Jets Fan forever, since ’68 – am loving every single moment of this!

Next week, the wounded Titans. Can’t wait to see what Rex and Co cook up for these guys. Right now they gotta be thinking, “The Jets kept this offense scoreless and they just waxed our butts big time – how ITF are we gonna stop these Jets???”

    Can’t wait…

  • WOW…

The Jets were in the business of killing Patsies, and cousin, business was boomin’!!!

When I saw the Jets pass rush relentlessly come after Tom Brady in the final minutes of Brady’s final drive, I KNEW WE WERE GOING TO WIN!

I haven’t felt this way about the Jets since Parcells was coach and the Jets went to the AFC divisional playoffs against the Broncos.

    This is truly awesome!!

    Bruce Harper,

Good point about Sanchez and the key thing to remember is that he is only going to get better as the season goes on. The offense will gradually start expanding and more players will become involved.

Gholston’s reps were limited because the Jets were playing a ton of packages with extra DB’s, even before Sheppard was hurt Strickland and Lowery were on the field a ton. Also I saw Murrell and Westerman taking some of his reps. When VG was in, he was a non-factor.

I would hope the Jets are a top 10 team in those rankings now.

    Iron Marshal,

Love the enthusiasm, make sure you get out to a game this year because it was quite an experience at the stadium. I also loved how Rex kept coming after Brady on the final drive, none of the prevent defense that Eric Mangini loved to play to let teams back into games.

Good quote from Inglorious Bastards…great movie. It is a good time to be a Jets fan right now, enjoy it.

  • Coach

Joe, What can I say? I was rooting as hard as any Jet fan surrounded by many members of the “Basement Group”. My hate of the Pats and their pompous, cheating, dead fish hand shaking coach exceeds my “dislike” for the Jets. As I told you I love Sanchez and he is the only reason to feel positive about the Jets. Their defense is good but my team consistantly puts up big numbers verse a Rex Ryan “D”. But this week is all about your Jets. Congratulation, you finally have a team (after 2 weeks). Good Luck.

The Jets always appreciate your support and of course of the support of the basement. Their defense may be a level above “good” right now since they haven’t allowed a TD yet.

I am pulling hard for the Colts to beat up on the overrated Dolphins tonight. Although with the depth chart they have at receiver right now, I might be able to walk on and get some reps in the slot for Peyton

I still have my uniform on.
Not taking it off until Saturday to wash it for Sunday’s game.
This is a feeling that I’m unfamiliar with.
